Wasup i have a 2002 tl-s and i noticed every time i turn my rear view mirror light dimmer, i start smelling some type of acid?!? i was wondering if mine is defected or if im just trippen??? thanks in advance!

Man if I was smelling acid, I wouldve changed it regardless.

But how does your mirror look? Is there like a line seperating from light to dark or bubbles?

there was a dude recently who had acid leaking out of his mirror and burned his shift console...i would watch that....is that what it takes to dim a mirror..acid.? damn...you know how the mirror has those 2 green lights when you turn on the dim...mines fell out...

when i press the button on the rear view mirror it dims the out side light but after a couple of minutes i start smelling some type of acid!!

One member had his actually explode. The acid inside ate through the dash, burned the seats, etc. I would take it in to have it checked out.

Take it to the dealer and they will replace it for free, don't mess around, it's not worth it. I was one of those people who had the liquid drip out onto my center console and destroy it. It took 4 trips to the dealer and almost two weeks for them to replace everything, but there are still marks on my passenger seat and radio.

Ask them if they'll have time to talk to your lawyer after the mirror explodes and sprays acid all over the interior and the occupants. ;-)

And what is the deal with the acid filled mirrors? I'm sure that wasn't mentioned in the Acura sales brochures.

I didn't know that there is acid in the rear view mirror!!!! So if I am in an accident I have a chance of getting melted?

well i just got off the phone with the dearlership!! and they said that the mechanics needs to take a look at my car and see wut the problems is! and my warranty ended january of this year but they said since i still hav low miles they might be able to do a free repair!! so this friday is my appointment i post up what happened!

wow this is ironic my mirror has this bubble in it and i was going to make a thread about it. i am going to the dealer tommrow morning and going to ask them to replace it.

I think its some type of abrasive material, but not acid. Acid is too dangerous to be put in a car.

Ya the acid and fluids in the mirror are what make it capable to auto dim.

If you get in your car and your dash has a hole melted through it, you're mirror is going bad.

there was a post where you could get a free oem rear view mirror. mine stopped dimming and i contacted the manufactuaer of the mirror and they sent it to me free and i replaced it myself. so if anyone is out of warranty and want to replace their rear view mirror search for the post. i think a couple other members got theres free as well.
