Pulley Swapping

Pulley Swapping
From what i have read on here and other places the only thing that makes power on our cars is the crank pulley?
i have also read that the idea of the underdrive pulley swap is to replace heavy oem pulley with lightweight pulley. right?
and i have tried to find a DIY on this but i came up with nothing.
i could use some advice on:
1. what pulley to buy
2. how to do it. is it hard anything more than unbolting, swinging the old pulley out and replacing?
3 and will i need a new belt?
and anything else you would like to tell me

First off, the greatest gains besides being boosted will be yielded from an intake, pulleys, headers, hi flow cat, catback exhaust, etc...There are manyy threads on this.
Unorthodox Racing is the recomended brand for us...(UR)
I dont know the exact installation procedure, but I cant imagine that its too hard.
Have you ever replaced your belts? If not this would be the perfect time to do so...However, I dont think its absolutely necessary

You'll need a special tool with a bored-out hex socket to remove the crank nut. You use the tool to hold the pulley still while using a regular socket (and breaker bar or impact wrench) to loosen the crank nut. I think it's called a Honda crank pulley tool. Some type of puller is also needed to get the pulley itself off.

You can purchase the pulley and belts from Excelerate Performance
There's the link. You need the UR crank pulley (stock size or underdrive). If you get the underdrive you have to get the shorter belts as well. You will need the Gates belts that are sold from the same vendor (Excelerate). The process is simple but getting the crank nut loose can be a bitch if you don't know what you're doing. It's the most torqued nut on the entire car (tightest).
I took it to my mechanic and he did it for me in less than an hour so it was worth it. Better than a major headache and hours of my time down the drain.
Also, the search function works wonders. You search crank pulley or just pulley and I know there will be posts on this that show up. There is no official DIY, but there is a couple large threads by a member or two that have installed one.

If you don't have a good compressor/impact wrench, read up on using the crank method to get the bolt off. And a good breaker bar to get it back in. Torque spec is like 180 lbs but I think UR specifies smaller torque and then a 30 degree turn (or something like that)

they give you the 181 foot pounds or a spec lower torque plus x amount of turn past that, (for those with lower limit torque wrench
either way brings you to 181 ---as tested by excelerate at his shop
Honda crank pulley tool from kragen.com 20 bucks
Bomz is another well known maker without the fancy labeling and laser etching.
CL guys have been using them for years as well as our megamod fsttyms1 has bomz over a year now, what he called `the mod he should have done years ago`
losing the weight allows faster revving to get into vtec sooner- thats how it `makes power`- by freeing up power already in the engine but slowed by the weight of spinning mass
need special size belt- and differnt brand than stock due to pulley edge shape, Gates fit best and run quiet
Shop with experience can do this in 20 minutes,, and usually charge 45-60 minutes time for it

not to be off topic but, iv have an electric impact wrench and its got a lot more punch than my air wrench at 115 psi. downside is that its larger and wont fit in tight spaces, unlike my air wrench which is smaller.

I figured some of you 6mt guys would chime in like that. I read fattymoses article. The pic below says it all.
Looks like lots of fun. Unfortunately, I don't have the time or resources to pull that off, even if I could find a 6mt. Guess I'll just have to red line it in 3rd gear before going to 4th.

our vendor excelerate is the only supplier
If I got the story correct, he had a bunch made when the manufacture was ending their production- so stock size in light size would be avail for those with stereos of more than 600 watts
