Question Programming New Key fob/Remote

I thought I might post this question here as well, since the steps should be the same for a CL or a TL. Anyone got a Helms manual?

Thanks:

I just spent 40 something dollars at the dealership to buy one of those new 2002 TL-S style key lock remotes. The guy at the parts counter gave me a xerox of some procedures to reprogram my car to accept it, but they don't work. I think he gave me the instructions for the wrong model of Acura. Does anyone have the shop manual, or know how to do this?

The instructions he gave me basically said to Turn the key to the On (II) position, then press the lock or unlock button on the remote, then turn the key to the Off position, press the lock or unlock button again. Repeat these steps three times, then turn the key to the On (II) position, press the lock or unlock button once on each remote that you want to program for your car. It says you can program up to 4 remotes this way, and that you need to have them all with you because once you start programming your car loses it's memory of all other remotes.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I did this for my Accord once, when my wife lost her key fob. I recall turning the ignition key to II, press lock/unlock button on one of the key fobs, turn the ignition key off again and then to II again and this proceedure is followed until all your locks suddenly lock(this is done 4 X) and then you then it is programmed (1st key fob) and then you press the lock/unlock button on the second key fob once and it is also programmed. Note you must point the remote to the rear windowas the transmitter unit is located there.

How do you program the key fob remote?
This is from the CL site, copied by the owner of: http://www.geocities.com/~gamesmgr/chod/acura/#Gizmo2

You can have a total of three remotes for your car. to program them do the following.
Between each step, wait about a couple of seconds. Also note that it doesn't matter in any of the steps if you use lock or unlock. Just hit one of them.
Repeat the following set of steps three times:
turn the ignition switch on. (Note: This is the III position, and you do not have to start your car)
push the remote lock button with remote aimed at the rec. in the passenger multiplex unit. (This is by the glove box).
turn the ignition switch off.
turn the ignition switch on.
push the remote unlock button while aimed at the rec. You should hear the locks click.
push the remote lock button.
within 10 sec. aim the remotes (up to threee) that you want to set at the rec. and press the lock or unlock buttons. When you do this each remote should be locking/unlocking the doors.
Turn off the ignition and remove the keys.
All the remotes should now work.

What year is your car? I thought the 99-01 cars are not compatable with '02 remotes.

Talking Thanks Vincent!

Your scan from the Helms manual worked great! My problem was that I just wasn't doing the steps fast enough. The other instructions I read said something about doing all of the steps and waiting 5-10 seconds in between each step. Thanks everyone for all of your help.

By the way, my car is a 2001 CL type S, which I can confirm will work with the 2002 TL remotes. I would imagine any of the 2000 - 2001 cars also work with the 2002 remotes, so if you guys want to get one of those shiny new remotes, go for it.

Lightbulb Yes, this will work in a TL

Yes, any 2000-2001 TL will also accept the 2002 TL type remote. Here are pictures for you:

It says push [LOCK] and [UNLOCK] to link and unlink memory seats on the back of your control. We (pre 2002 models) do not have memory seats. What will the remote link do if it can't unlink the memory seats? Will that fry your remote? anyone actually installed it? How much does it cost?

Tim, group buy on this?

NO NO NO I went thru this months ago --
THE ONLY TL compatible with the pritty remote is the 2002 model.

Pre 02' TL's ARE NOT COMPATIBLE -- nor do the guts from 99-01 models fit in the 02 case.

CL's are diff. cuz they came with memory seats to begin with in 01 I think.....

I am working on finding out if EL or RL remotes will work

unfortunately, NO
its been confimred by Park Ave., and other members... heres my old thread on it...

I was the guinea pig at Park Ave Acura who wanted the new key fob. They tried switching the insides into the new case, and also reprogramming the new key fob. Neither worked. I was disappointed, but I learned how to reprogram remotes which is really cool! G-dforbid any of you ever lose a remote, and need to buy a new one, don't sweat it. It's REAL simple to reprogram!
