Hello Guys. When i start my 1999 acura TL in cold weather (0 degrees celcius and below) the check engine and TCS lights come on and stay on. if i try to put the car into D4 there is a loud clunk and the D4 light doesnt light up on the dash. D3, D2 and D1 all light up. if i try to drive in D4 anyway, it is VERY sluggish as well as D3. D2 and D1 will drive. what i have to do when this happens is wait for the car to fully warm up, turn it off and turn it back on for the computer to reset i guess. that it is normal and drivable. ive been having this problem since last winter. i just dealt with it than, but am unable to deal with it this winter. i think the engine code reading was multiple or random misfires but i forget which cylinders. I'm hoping it is just spark plugs seeing how they haven't been changed for 3 yrs (about 75000km). If anyone has any other ideas, suggestion or thought please let me know. much appreciated in advance.

 

The best place to start is by taking care of the Check engine light codes. If your getting a missfire code fix it. Its probably just one coil pack.

As for the putting it into gear problem that sounds like a trans problem. When was the fluid last changed??

 

the trans is new from acura about 1 yr ago. thats the last time the oil was changed. it only happens in conjunction with the cold start and when the tcs and check engin light comes on. so from what your saying... a misfire is from bad coil pack not the spark plug itself? or both?
