Post Problem with X-pel

I recently removed some of my 3M Clearbra that I purchased from X-Pel. The material was starting to turn a light yellowish color and looking really bad. While removing it off my rear bumper, I noticed it was also taking off some of the clearcoat. What I just found out from Xpel is that this material should not be placed on surfaces that isn't factory painted. Shiet wouldn't that have been nice if there were warnings on their website? I guess my car is going back into the body shop!!! oh well live and learn!

Holy crap...sorry to hear that. I was thinking of doing the front with expel. So this should not be done on our TL? Did you do it yourself or did you have them install it. They guarantee not to yellow. Maybe you can get them to pay for your paint job.

Question

I was going to get this done too. You said, "not factory painted?" I have heard rave reviews about this product. Did you install yourself? How long ago did you do this? Dealers in Virginia swear by the stuff too, and when I mean dealers, I mean Mercedes Benz and Porsche! Damn....

I just thought about something. "Not factory painted?" Our bumpers are factory painted, heck, the whole dam car is factory painted. Do you have a bodykit? That does not sound right. Help before I do this.....

No I think that it is a great product but do not use it on repainted surfaces. Xpel says that 3M material has a yellowish tin to it from the start. I still have it on the hood of my car!!!

Thumbs up

I have had it on my TL for about 2 months now and have not had any problems with it thus far. I have noticed I have to sometimes whipe really well along the lines after I wash as dirt sometimes will build up around there. Concerning the yellowish tint, my Acura is Naples Gold so I doubt I could actually tell if it is or not.

i don't think my xpel is turning yellow. My front bumper is not factory painted but it was baked and stuff so I guess the paint is as good, or better than factory. Why are you taking off your xpel bro? Let's meet on the 13th or something and i will check it out.

Question

Hey PaulInTexas,

So you like the Xpel alot? I am relieved that people, who have TL's, like this product cause i want to get this done ASAP! So you really can't tell either? BTW, did you install it yourself or did you let a professional do it? Not that you're not a professional.....Thanks,
