Problem at idle, any 1 know why?

With a warm engine at idle in neutral or park if I give it just alittle gas the RPM's drop to the point where it almost stalls, then they come back to normal. Any ideas on what this is? Thanks...

hummmm sounds like it needs a beating!

um i dont know, it could be a idle/air sensor, or its just not used to your new plugs. if you didnt after changing your plugs try resetting your ecu

I had a similar problem last month, when the car was in drive and I was sitting in stop and go. Had appt with dealer the following day for other items and they could not duplicate. It has not done it since. Did you notice if your D5 light dimmed?

I have the same problem. Last time it did it, the primary O2 sensor died. I think this one's about to go, too.

have them check the ignition switch or the idle controller (dont know what to call it). had this problem on my old 2000 accord. dealer had to order the part from japan which wouldve cost me $2 to $4 g's if not under warranty. my dad's civic had a recall on the ignition switch and ever since, the car has been fine after they replaced it. had the same problem as you.

Had the same problem with my 02 TLS. The dealer replaced the EAC (part # 16022P8AA03) valve and it fixed it big time. It was under the 60,000 KM warranty.

Good Luck!

i think he meant EGR valve. that can cause weird idles if its sticking.

have you had the code P0401 before? where they clean the insufficant egr flow?

No, I've never had a P0401 before. But should I clean it, anyway?

I've never done it, though. Any DIY instructions available?

i posted a diy in someones thread that had the issue. ive had it twice now (about every 75k) VERY easy to do and recomend it to any one. takes about 1 1/2 hr to do (depending on how much time you take cleaning) all you need is 3 cans of spray carb cleaner, and a few hand tools, and acouple small scrub brushes.
disconect the battery.remoe teh plastic engine cover, take off the hose that goes to the tb from the air box. undo your throttle cables and any thing else that hooks to your intake manifold. then remove the 10 10mm bolts on the top plate on the intake manifold. lift straight up.(carefull not to damage the gasket, you will reuse) then remove the 8 (cant remember off teh top of head 12mm?) bolts inside the intake manifold (you will see) then lift teh intake manifold up carefully also preserving the gasket. double check as lifting to make sure you unplugged every thing.
it sounds tricky but it is VERY easy.
go down to post 4 for some pics

Awesome. Thanks, fstty.

So do you think this could fix the bad idle? Mine's the same way right now -- give it some gas, RPM drops down to like 300, almost stalling out, car is shaking, then comes back to normal idle RPM.

By the way, whose Firebird in the picture?? Modded? Come on, spit it out.

Dang, that sucks. What's the story behind it?? Why was it parked in your garage? (I assume you cleaned the EGR in your garage.)
