does anyone have a problem with their cars usage of gas. im getting about 14 mpg in my 02 tl-s. nebody kno any reasons why i might be getting such a low mpg. ne help is appreciated thank you

 

how long has it been since u have gotten an oil change?

 

man I am lucky to get 20. I drive normal most of the time. I get about 100-115 by half a tank, it sucks.

 

i drive my car hard on occasions but i still average in the mid and lower 20's, i wonder why some people are getting low mpg

 

I get low mpg because I do mainly city driving. I say 90% city and 10% highway.... on average i get about 15-17 mpg but i have hit 12 mpg on occasions. it all depends on what kind of driving habits you have, and if you're like me and hit vtec a lot then thats where you start getting low mpg

 

i just got my oil changed last week but i still get low mpg well tomorrow im going to get the tranny recall fixed at dealership i'll ask them to find out why.

 

try using a different brand of fuel. city isnt easy on any car's mileage( minus the hybrids) . i honestly dont know how some get so low of mileage. i drive fairly hard and im never that low on my MPG

 

strange how some people get much lower mpgs on their vehicles with the same driving conditions 80% city /20% highway (average) ..... assuming that drivers drive within normal speed limit of stop and go traffic.

for my vehicle, i have noticed a difference with;

1. synthetic motor oil (Mobile One 5w/30) vs. normal (Cheveron 5w/30)

a. switched from non-synthetic to normal motor oil and lost about 30miles on every tank of fill-up

b. low gas light comes on at 280-ish trip odometer on normal motor oil

c. versus..320-ish on synthetic

d. point- stick with synthetic on my next motor oil change

2. drop-in K&N filter

a. didn't do anything for improving my gas consumption

b. put a small dent...got 5 extra miles at max

3. tire pressure

a. didn't really track but i try to keep pressure at least 38psi

4. ss vs. D5

a. leave it on D5...with ss and shifting gears before 3K rpm didn't get good mileage compared to
leaving it in D5, lost <10miles.

5. can't remember what the mechanic did, said "cleaned my engine ..."

a. got better mileage from what i can remember running synthetic motor oil, but switched to normal
motor oil soon after so i wasn't able to get an average calculation of mpgs consumed....
(switched to normal motor oil after two fill-ups at the tank)

6. not every gas station that carries the same brand will result in quality grade gas.

a. two Chevron gas stations; different prices..so i opt to get the cheaper gas ....
my tl-s did not like it....got poor mpgs. so switch gas station occasionally...don't always
fill-up at the same.

I do about 80% highway and 20% city, before my new tires (mich) I had about 19/20 mpg consistantly... now with new tires (conti extremes) I get like 17-19 depending....
