Post Problem with driver armrest

Anyone having problem with the center armrest popping up. Kust started today. If you tap it or go over a speed bump it just pops up.

Going to take it to the dealer tommorrow, seems like the latch does not seal properly.

This morning the latch seemed to work. It was not a problem.

I think it may have something to do with the car being out in the Texas Sun (90s temp) and heating up the interior plastic.

I went to the dealer, spoke to the service manager, and they were aware of the problem. They bent the plastic in a bit. There was not an immediate solution.

We'll see how it fares this week.

That's exactly what was going on with my center console. I live in Florida and when my car would sit out in the sun for several hours, as soon as I would start driving, 1/2 mile down the road the lid would start popping up. I took it in the first time and they fixed it but a week later it started to do the same thing. Brought it in a second time, as I was getting my oil change, and they fixed again. They guaranteed that it would not pop open again. So far, so good. It just made really cheesy if you ask me. They could have done a much better job.

Cool

I've not had this problem (yet) but I do have a problem w/ mine STAYING open. It seems like if you have so much as a pen in the top compartment, it won't stay open when accessing the bottom compartment. As for as the latch design, I must say it seems pretty poor. Just a hole in plastic w/ an extremely malleable plastic latch/hook?! I think it must have been designed by some summer intern at Acura or something. I think maybe a magnet like the last Legend's armrest would have been better. Whatever was in my 98 Accord EX V6 seemed to work fine -- same bi-level compartment TL -- but I never noticed what it was because it always worked perfectly.

You're exactly right....it's just a rectangular hole cut out of cheap plastic with a cheap plastic catch that's supposed to hold the weight of the top compartment. My brother-in-law's 2001 Honda's center console is designed much sturdier. Mine may be fixed for now, but I can see the same kind of problem developing down the road, especially if it's used often. My '98 TL never had a problem. I'm sure the 2003 TL won't have the same console design. Too many people having problems with such a trivial part of the car. Just a poor design

Yes, mine has been doing the same thing. It seems to be worse when the interior is hot. I'm taking mine in for a fix
