Problem with 2000TL Navi
I have purchased from insurance auction 2 TLs with damages:
2000 TL (hit form the back) and 2001 TL (hit from the front).
The 2000 TL had light rear damages; even back glass was not damaged. It has Navi, and when the car still was not repaired yet, I have played with the Navi to check and see if it works. It did work just fine; all the options of Navi worked including voice direction.
Now, when I fixed the 2000 TL, the Navi is giving me a hard time. I am trying to get it in to the mode where it advises me on the proper route, but it does not speak to me any more and instead of that I am getting a message on the screen:" System can not locate your vehicle, please drive for awhile"
It seems like that there its no connection between my Navi and the satellite. My Navi works partially, i.e. it shows me the Current Vehicle location (the North compass arrow moves correctly while I drive), it shows me maps, but when I try to activate the voice it does not work...
Note, my 2001 TL has tinted rear glass and I thought it would look much better if I will exchange the glasses. And so on 2000 TL I have installed the rear glass from my 2001 TL. Could be due to the tint the Navi malfunctions? how can I find out whether the tint is metallic or not?
I need some professional advice. What can be checked and corrected.
Please help.

Sounds like an antenna problem maybe.
To check the system link or go into funtion mode I think you hold down..map, a/c, and cancel in this order when the navi is on the OK disclaimer.
If it doen't work just keep trying other combo's, but you press from the top to the bottom and hold them all till the navi screen changes.
If you get to this mode there will be a system check mode, it will let you know if all systems are working o.k.
It will also tell you how many stallites are tracking your car.

Burning Brakes
Menu + Map + Cancel (It usually takes about 3-5 seconds of holding these buttons down for the screen to change, and for some reason, it works best [for me] if I do it within a few minutes of starting the car)
I agree with lbbrando, it's probably a physical connection that has not been made. Definitely check the antenna (the Navi has its own antenna - separate from the radio antenna) and it's placement. Tint shouldn't interfere with the antenna to the point of it not being able to pick up a signal at all - from what I've read on this board, most people have problems with accuracy.

orcaatk Thanks for the correction... because i was suprised that the combination advised by lbbrando map, a/c, and cancel did not work at all.
I've checked the antena connection (plugged and unpluged it several times).
I will try now your combination, let's see if it will do the trick...

orcaatk, I've tryed your sugested combination and it worked, but only after I hit the OK at the disclamer page.
So I've got to diagnostics mode.
Sistem Links are OK
Display :
connection OK; ROM - OK; RAM - OK
Navi ECU:
High Tmp 40C
Low Tmp 2C
Flash IPL OK[1.6500]
Flash Application OK[2.1122]
RAM OK
VRAM OK
Model IN
Car Status:
VSP OFF
BACK OFF
CHG ON
ILL ON
LFW
GPS Information:
Number of Satelites in the square box [7 yellow , 1 black]
On the round map it shows 7 yellow (In Use) and one blue (Search)
I saw also Backup Clear option. I wonder if I will hit OK what it will do? It says: "To clear SRAM and System history push OK button. This will Reset the navigation system"
Shall I try it or I will screwup something by pushing OK?
Also there is another option Force Download. When I pushed on it the prompt message came up: " Are you sure you want to force download and restart the system?" Shall I try to hit YES button or I will screwup something by pushing it?
What else can be to check?

If you force the dowload make sure the car is running and DO NOT TURN IT OFF OR PLAY WITH THE NAVIGATION WHEN ITS DOING THIS. Also I was reading your first post and let me understand this correctly....you replaced the rear window on the 2000 TL with the rear window from the 2001 TL? Are you sure none of the wires are spliced anywhere due to the impact of the rear collision? that might explain why it was working then stopped and / or is intermittent

ArN 2000 TL,I don't think I had spliced cabling. The 2000TL had moderate impact from the right rear side. The glass did not shatter. All the rear harness and the Navi wiring in the trunk are located from the left side, which was is good shape.
I've changed the rear glass due to it was not tinted and I had a tinted glass from 2001 TL.
I have checked the Navi System Links and it shows me OK for links between all the Navi components.
Do you have any other suggestions on what can be checked?

ArN 2000 TL, I did the Force Download it says dowloading the software. After all was complete I've tried again to get the voice derection, but no luck same message pops up:" System cannot define vehicle position, please drive for a while"
I also did the Backup Clear , it just cleared the previously stored addresses, no effect on the Navi at all.
