Just did an oil change this weekend. Poured some into the filter and did the rubber seal. The idea with the oil on the seal is to help prevent it from fusing, so the next time you do an oil change, the filter and seal come off as one piece.

You fill the filter through the large threaded end before installation b/c you want to reduce start up oil starvation (the time it takes the oil to reach the important parts), lubricating the gasket reduces the chance that the cheap rubber will stick.

Fill the filter as full as it will go. It takes a couple of minutes for the oil to absorb into the filter, then you can pour more.

Since the TL filter is vertically mounted, it makes it easier to do this and not get messy.

The oil on the gasket will help to seal the filter when you screw it on.

Definitely wet the gasket on the new oil filter. It's not a bad idea to fill up the
chamber as well to minimize oil starvation on start up. I usually pull the EFI fuse
and crank the starter till the oil light goes out so I know it's primed.

Filling the filter on the TL is not a bad idea since it is installed nearly vertically.

don't fill the filter too much because it has a slight angle when installing... i filled it up all the way and spilt oil all around the filter.

My buddy has a GS-R and I stopped by when he was doing his oil change. I told him to fill it up before plugging it in, so he was like "OK." Fills it up, gets underneath the car, and next thing I know, he's cussing up a storm. He rolled out from underneath the car and he was SOAKED in oil. I asked him what happened, and he goes, "Man, the B18C has the oil filter mount right up to the block horizontally."

I just about fell over laughing.
