For ppl have dark (illegal) tint, here is my trick to avoid cop

In VA, the legal limit for driver/front passenger window is 35%, I'm running 25% all around and I do encounter cops on the road frequently. Me and my wife take HOV everyday and cops setup checkpoints on the on-ramp/off-ramp on I-66 often, but we never got pulled over for tint.

Here is the trick: if you see there are cops around, open your sunroof shade which allows more light coming through your sunroof glass, which makes your front tint looks lighter. Or just open the sunroof, nobody will think your front tint is as dark as the rest of the window this way.

Just my

Not for me. In NYC when you go through mid-town tunnel to Manhattan sometimes they check for tints. One day I had all for windows down, they saw back window....they pulled me over...and I got a ticket. I've learned that at check points they check most cars with tint, dark or not. But when driving in the street, cracking the windows and sunroof does help.

Just a warning to all, keep in mind that your 25% tint will read much lower due to the OEM window glass already having a tint-like coating on it.

Several people have gotten tickets for what should be legal tint, but because the OEM glass makes it read darker, they got busted.

"LA Tint", they have store in Alexandria, Sterling, Woodbridge and Manassas. They are a little pricy but did a good job. Don't use their "Classic" (cheapest) film, it will fade.

go to http://www.latint.com/ for more info.

You can find $20 off coupon from yellowpage sometime, I went to Woodbridge with a expired coupon they let me use it if I go during weekday (more customers on weekends I guess). Took two guys about an hour.

Some state laws refer to the NET tint (OEM plus film) while other laws refer to just the film. Click ----> Here for a summary.

I'm not going to give you a ticket but us cops ain't that dumb." ..and he pulled off. At first, I didn't think he had saw me rolling down my front windows from such a distance..coming the opposite way of traffic but he did. I kind-of laughed it off..but the cop was being such a prick..the way he said it..oh well. Just be extra careful nowadays since the nice weather is kickin' in!

i have 35% tint on the front windows.. I got pulled over once for it so far... But they dont look dark to me... I have been debating whether to get them darker because i think they are too light for me... I see othe cars that have much darker tints.. and i say to myself "wtf don't they get pulled over"

sometimes they dont care here in fairfax county.. but if your in fairfax city.. forget it....they are really strict...

It is true that front two tinting is illegal... at least for CA. However, as long as the cops are able to have a good visual of the driver and the passenger, then there shouldn't be any problem. Opening the sunroof is what I always do too and so far the cops seems to be cool with it. (Of course, from time to time, there are dick heads out there who'd just LOVE to other people's day miserable)

YEP YEP!! our lovely NYC Cops! lol, I can have all windows down, sunroof open, they will come up to you, and will ask you to raise the windows. And they seem to pull me over in the darkest area, so no matter what, my 20% look limo.... Cops tel me I have only 7-11% light coming thru.

They are bastards here when it comes to tint.

I had the 35% and got pulled over probably because of the OEM tint. The cop was pretty understanding, since I only ended up being a few percent over. He left me off with a warning. (I64 west outside of Charlottesville). He sits on the side of the road every single morning so I'm sure he's seen me everyday. He pulled me over a couple days after I got the tints, so he probably realized that they had just been done, and I hadnt realized I was overtinted. Stupid virginia, this state has the most stringent auto-related laws ever.

Doesn't always work. If they want to be D1cks or if you're doing something stupid. They'll pull you over and take out the light meter.

Hey people. A cop can pull you over and tell you that your tibt is XYZ%
and then ticket you but if he doesn't use the machine that goes over your window then you can get it thrown out. No one in the world can say for sure that this is XYZ% It has to be verified by machine!!!!!!!!!!

Eh,
all you have to do is cite your fair skin as the reason for such a dark window hue. And that can be backed up with a letter from a dermatologist, ($25) kept in the car to show the cop that pulled you over...
but i think it's wisest to just drive with your windows open, as mentioned above.

Yep, of course, I always look for the tint meter. But they have a different test, they raise your window, and they hold your license behind the glass, and if they cant read it, its too dark Plus most judges are asses too, you guilty before they even hear u.

All i can say is know some cops and have some PBA cards.

It's 'wisest' to simply obey the tint laws in your state.
