Power steering speed sensor leak. Need some help.

New to forum. I have a 2001 TL base. I have a power steering leak at the p/s speed sensor. I already replaced the inlet and outlet hoses also new clamps and its still leaking. Next step is to remove the sensor assembly and replace the o-ring. I can see the leak coming down. How do you remove the speed sensor? Not a lot of room, very tight space. I removed the washer/bolt to the side and its not budging loose...any help is appreciated. Thank you

If you are referring to the p/s pressure switch assembly; #29 on the link below, and its corresponding O-ring(7.8X1.9) #31:

P.S. Hoses - Pipes for 2001 Acura TL SEDAN | Acura OEM Parts

Looking at my CL-S Helms service manual, there is no real clear depiction or guidance as to how to replace it, it's probably the same for the TL Helms.

If you can't get to it, from the top without removing the strut bar etc, it might be possible from below with long wrenches? (You've probably already tried) It may be easier to remove the line, replace the switch, then reinstall?

Good Luck!

How curious.. this is the first I've seen of that leaking, Are you sure it's that and not something higher up or around the actual transmission?

Yes I'm positive. I can see it forming while I'm underneath and someone turning the steering wheel.

Holy Cow! I can only imagine that thing is buried.

It looks like #20 Bolt Washer (8X26) (at the red arrow) is the only fastener that holds it to the tranny. It may just lift up vertically, that is if there is space where you'd be working.

Maybe #17 might have to come off held by #29 bolts?

Is that the O-ring (Yellow arrow) you'd be replacing; #25?

Yes its that o-ring and I believe there is another internally once you disassemble it. I got that bolt off but its not coming loose and i don't see any other bolt attaching it. I may just have to muscle it up and out..looking forward to smashing my fingers lol. If anybody is replacing those inlet/outlet hoses they are 1/4 and 5/16 and i used trans cooler hose..thank you for help btw.

Maybe try and rock the car as you pull up? Or put the auto trans in neutral? If you have not already tried.
The gear at the bottom is interacting with something in the trans, so that's not helping get that assembly to go vertical.

That thing reminds me of a part I had to change an O-ring on, during a lower intake manifold gasket replacement, my mother 's 2001 Olds Alero. It was located in a transmission port, much like this one, where the old distributor would reside. It leaked like h3ll until I got it out and change the O-ring, not fun.

I tapped it out with a hammer from underneath using a long extension. So here is the speed sensor out and dissambled. I'll be replacing both o-rings and that should eliminate the leak...

Thanks for the pictures. It is quite evident that those O-rings a perished and flattened.
Just to clarify, is this p/s speed sensor a secondary 'pump', of some type, to the main power steering pump?
What's it function / role in the grand scheme of the p/s system?

I don't see that larger O-ring on the parts diagram?

Yes the o-rings are flattened and hard. It is not really a sensor, more like a little pump that runs off of the fluid inside the tranny and controls power steering pressure by the amount of flow in the transmission.

When you supplied the parts diagram indicating the item, in post three, I thought I recalled seeing it talked about somewhere.

The supplied image from the OP is no longer there; however, I'm pretty sure this is the power steering sensor assembly mentioned in the FAQ: 06-07 AV6 Transmission 'Swap' thread.

I have the same speed sensor and need both o-rings changed. Do you have the sizes for the o-rings available?
