Power Steering Junk

So one of my problems that I've gotten since the swap was power steering issues. My fluid would bubble up in the reservoir, it squeaks and squeals and is leaking at the rack. The pump also makes some funny noises and when I first start the car when it's cold I have to muscle-fuck the steering wheel to get the p/s pump to engage.

I'm assuming I need to replace both? But as you may well know, both the rack and the pump are well over $300 each.

My question is, has anyone dealt with A-1 Cardone products for their power steering? I can get the pump for $157 and the rack for $258?

Should I go ahead and change my reservoir too?

Thanks!

I used a rebuilt Cardone from Rockauto, and works just fine. I didnt use honda PS fluid at first, and it was giving me all sorts of headaches, frothing up and whining. Flushed it and put Honda fluid in it, all good now.

Chances are the reservoir doesn't have a problem. But it's a pretty cheap part so you might as well replace it.

My fluid bubbled out of my reservoir because air got into the system due to a leak from the steering rack. My mechanic recommended I change both the rack and the pump because the pump might have gotten effed up running on little/no fluid.

No need to change the reservoir unless it's cracked. Clean it out and you're good to go.

Don't have any personal experience with the re-man'd pump and rack though...

Cardone makes good products. They provide remanufactured products for just about every auto parts store out there. As long as you use the right fluid and install everything properly you should have no issues.

There is a seal that might need to be replaced in the pump. It's a couple of bucks. Some 3rd gen guys went through this

Thanks guys, and Phee, that's what I heard, I'll probably replace the rack (it's leaking) and the o-ring in the pump and see if that helps.

Keep in mind there is a thin membrane filter at the bottom of the reservoir that can easily tear. If your fluid is real gunky for $25 bucks it is easier that trying to clean it.
Also without Honda fluid your gonna have issues.
