potholes damaging strut?

My 2002 TL developed a noise in the front-end recently and it appears that the front left strut is damaged. You can actually here a scraping and ticking noise if you push up and down on the front end - left side. I hit the occasional pothole since I travel on some pretty nasty roads and I wondered if that's how this could have happened. Has anyone experienced this? I see some posts on tire blowouts and damaged rims from potholes but no one says they damaged a strut on a pothole. Just curious as to whether these struts are that "delicate" or if this could just have been a manufacturing fluke on the strut? BTW - the tire and rim seem perfect and this is NOT a Type S.

Thats pretty weird. I usually try to avoid potholes and I'm pretty good with that. I dont remember the last time I hit a big pothole but Honda suspensions are pretty good. They are meant to last a long time. Our 94 Accord suspension is still good even with 160K miles on it. Its been through a lot of city driving and the suspension is still holding up. We even hit a huge pothole in which two of our tires blew and both rims were bent. I would take it back to the dealer and ask them to take a look at it while it is still under warranty.

Thats strange. I wonder if that is the noise I am hearing from the left front passenger side. I hear a loud click everytime my tl goes over bumps and uneven road and the car dips from left to right even slightly. I wonder if it is the suspension. I have gone crazy and the dealer too trying to find it. None of teh panels are making the noise yet it sounds like it is from the passenger door, floor or pllar. Very hard to pinpoint Im gonna try to look at my strut now.

Have someone look at your control links from the sway bar. They could more easily be broken than other suspension parts. The links some times could stay in place and not be broken but just not tight enough and this will cause noise when going over bumps, etc.

Turns out I had a bent strut in front. Did you find your problem?
