Possible Trans Failure?

Today I was out with my friend, and suddenly gear was stuck in 2nd. I was gentely accelerating from stop light when this happened, and when I look at my tach I saw it was registering around 5800-6000 rpm at approximately 35 mph. Is this a sign of transmission failure? This is the first time that I experienced anything like this on my car. By the way my car is '02 Tl-Type S with 21000 miles on it.

Thanks

5800-6000 rpm @ 35mph? Sounds like 1st gear to me.

I remember that gear had shifted into 2nd, beside I didn't slam on gas. I was "gently" accelerating, plus when this happened there was no acceleration, the feeling that was close to clutch slipping on stick shift.

It must have slipped into first. Those RPM's are exactly what you would be doing if you were in first.

So yes, unless you suddenly added more gas, it could be a sign of a transmission failiure.

When you said "It must have slipped into first", do you mean like kick-down? I could be wrong, but I though if you don't slam on your gas, the gear shifted around 3500-4000 rpm from 1st to 2nd? Is there any other signs that I should be aware of if its a trans failure?

Thanks

Never mind, I found the signs of failure by using Search function.

Did you have to recreate the problem for them or are they just going to replace the tranny?

The adviser took my car for a short drive with me on passenger side. The transmission slipped and kicked down to 2nd when we were going 75 mph. After experiencing that, adviser said it had to be replaced.

He said there is something wrong with solenoids(?) rather than transmission itself or something like that.
