Possible.. Tranny starting to fail?
Recently, my car has been shifting funny. Specifically, when upshifting from 2nd to 3rd gear the rpm's jump up 500-800 rpm's? Like it is slipping, but only on the 2 to 3 shift, all the other gears are fine. I remember reading about some of you guys having this symptom prior to the tranny letting go, and I was wondfering if I could take it in to the dealer, to have it repaired, before it actually leaves me stranded somewhere inconvenient? Or is the dealer just going leave it be until it actually totally fails? Is there still a big delay in getting replacement transmissions? Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated!
What year TL do you have? Yeah, from my experience, that is the big gear, 2 to 3. It happened on my accord, and blew the next day. Thank god the dealer replaced it for free since I had just bought the car. When your TCS and engine light come on thats the big key that the tranny is done. I'd take it in and have them check it out. Good luck!

Yeah your tranny is toast. The tranny failure that everyone is having is caused by a defective 3rd gear clutch pack. My car did the same thing just before it went (the over reving in between the 2nd and 3rd shift). Be VERY carefully driving it now. Just after that started happening, maybe a day or two later, my car shifted all by itself from 5th to 2nd gear while i was going about 70 MPH. Not pleasant.
I posted about this a week or so ago.

Tranny failure
Thanks for the heads up! It's a 2002 TL-P, and I've noticed it for about a week now. So, do you guys think that the dealer will replace itnow, while it is only slipping? Or will they make me wait until, it actually blows up?
ps
I've been letting off the gas on the 2-3 shift, so that it doesn't slip much...

I wouldn't know that, since I havn't had a flaw with my tranny on my 99, but I'd recommend going in or calling, and telling them whats goin on. They should replace it because its under warranty, and I dont care how many times they say there isn't a problem with their trannys, they know there is, and they shouldn't hesitate to replace it now, to avoid future problems, and injuries. Keep us posted!

You should be able to get them to replace it now. When i brought mine in they 'road tested' it for probably 2 minutes and said 'it was fine'. I came unglued and said "FINE???!! the damn thing nearly threw me out the window when it shifted into 2nd from 5th. So dont tell me its fine. I wont drive it again until you fix it" Apparently the tech are looking to see the D5 light or check engine light blinking on the dash to satisfy themselves that the tranny is gone.
I spoke to the service manager and told him about the problems i was having with the tranny and he said he'd take it for a longer ride himself personally. Later in the day he called to say he didnt get the unexpected tranny shifts but that he noticed enough irregularities in the shifts (probably the over revs between shifts) that he went ahead and ordered me a new tranny.
Be sure they get you a free loaner because thats covered too. They had my car for only 9 days. Apparently the transmission rebuilding shop Acura uses is working overtime to catch up on the backlog. As for the rebuilt tranny, i was told the only part that is 'used' is the outer housing, and all the internal parts are new, which is not what they were doing before and thats why so many people had 2,3 or even 4 tranny failures in a row.

Mine did the same thing yours is doing and they replaced it before it crapped out completely. See if you can manually reproduce the problem using SportShift. I was able to make the car "flare" between 2->3 using SS although I don't know if the techs ever did. They took it for a test drive and said they were going to replace it.
