Poly Filling Motor Mounts

Is it okay to fill a shot mount, or do I need to get a new one to fill it?

Pretty sure it can be done on shot mounts.

I guess it all depends on if you want it to vibrate or not.

Oh, it's not a name. It just means its shot, ie...a bad mount. Poly filled to make it stiffer.

DONT fill a bad mount. Get a new one. Polyfilling a old wont help the fact that all the rubber on the mount is torn. It wont be near as effective as it would be on a new one.

First I am gonna fill the bad one, for two reasons....First off, to have a practice shot at it...And secondly, I wanna see how it will feel once poly filled, since there will be a lot more vibrations. If I like it overall, I will get new mounts and do those, if not I will just get new mounts...

Is there a certain type of Polyurethane that I need? I picked up a gallon of oil based urethane for flooring from Home depot earlier today.

I will also be jumping in the group buy for the torque damper hopefully tomorrow afternoon.

Add to that the oil filled mounts will leak hydraulic fluid and will keep the poly from bonding.

No no no. Totally wrong product. I used the 3M Window Weld product but others can chime in with what they used.

I honestly did not think it was the right product, but 3 people at Home Depot assured me that it was what I was looking for. Where can I find that?

And how many 10.5 oz tubes would I need?

oh.. hahah.. i thought it was some nickname for a certain mount or something.. ive seen others fill them when they were actually still in ok shape just to make them more rigid.. ive never known anyone to fill one that has already taken a crap though..

it's like a poly urethane concrete sealant, you'll need a caulking gun. you only need one big tube if you are going to be liberal with it.

advice needed

i have a question on how to reinstall the front motor mount if its poly filled. since that circler top cover plate that is attached by 4 little bolts, it will be "glued" onto the motor mount from the poly. how are you going to install the 3, 14mm bolts to the bracket/engine? i had to unbolt that top plate of the mount and hold it out of the way in order to back out the 2 lower bracket bolts, otherwise the bracket bolts would hit that piece of metal.

any suggestions?

also i had a tough time getting the bolt holes to line up on the bracket, is it better to unbolt the side mount and maybe the tranny mounts when installing the front?

thanks

i just ordered the Ingalls dampener today. My mounts are OK, not shot, but aren't like new. Don't all new OEM mounts come pre-filled with hydraulic fluid anyways? If so and you're mount (front) isn't shot wouldn't filling your old moujnt be the same as filling a new one?

I think the question is about the space for something to be inside the mount
can you can drain a `still good mount` and fill it solid

sbuswell-A poly filled mount is sort of in between a solid motor mount and a traditional rubber factory mount. The poly filled version should take much more abuse and essentially last longer (being that our factory mounts are crap). A lot of ppl are using this method in addition to those that did the 6mt swap. I plan on the same.

and as ANC said-poly and hydraulic are two completely different things..

I understand the methedology behind poly filling our mounts. My question was are the OEM mounts pre-filled with hydraulic fluid when you buy them? I replaced my front and side about 2 years ago and can't remember. I think it was filled as it was pretty heavy, but not positive. My concern is if you have an older mount that is not busted can you fill it with poly considering, if it's true, that new mounts are pre-filled with hydraulic fluid before you buy them? I would think the fluid would be easy to drain out of the mount, but it would be near impossible to get it all out (residual would remain).

Ive used it on my Accord mounts... works great but I suggest waiting a week before reinstalling them.

i got all the fluid out. i cut out about 90% of the rubber and filled it with 80a ply. front and side, the side has a crack in it. dont think i let it cure long enough. the front is holding up great. need to do the rear now.
