Po740 - Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid

Po740 - Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid
2000 TL - 145K miles, transmission jet kit installed. Had CEL and TCS light come on multiple times last week. Code PO740 TCC clutch solenoid Circuit. No change in how car drives, shifts etc... Note: In multiple test drives, it only throws this code when I'm at highway speed (60+ MPH). If I'm in D4 instead of D5 when while driving at highway speed, I don't get a CEL.
Searching forums, etc... suggested problem could be (1) low fluid, (2) dirty fluid, (3) bad TCC solenoid or something worse that I hope doesn't end up being the problem.
Fluid level was up (overfull actually). I did 3x drain and refill. First drain got 4 quarts + what I spilled from not having the pan in right spot, maybe another pint. Added back 3 quarts each time, as this is how much is supposed to drain out. Fluid level is now correct. Still get PO740 in D5 at over 60 MPH.
I think next step is test and possibly replace TCC solenoid. Problem is (aside from the fact I know virtually nothing about transmissions) I don't know which of the half dozen tranny solenoids is the TCC solenoid.
There seems to be a pair each of "A" and "B" solenoids, two "linear" solenoids and a "shift" solenoid. If anyone can help steer me to the correct solenoid I would appreciate it. Or if you think I'm barking up the wrong tree and the problem may be something else, I would appreciate that feedback as well. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Code says torque convertor solenoid signal malfunction
I got that same code the other day, but after i did a 3 quart drain fill, cleared the code and it came back the next day, i was already going to put in a cooler, so i let it be because everything was driving fine, i put in the cooler and did another drain fill, with the cooler i added 6 quarts, its been driving perfectly fine, whether it is aggressive or normal.
I didnt think too much about the code because i only got the code when my ivac acted up, and i had reset the car to relearn, but its been driving perfect

Is there a long term solution for this problem? Are there aftermarket torque converters which are more reliable? Are standard TL's susceptible to the same problems?
#14
Yep.. I can concur. I had this error come up twice on me, I simply cleared it and didn't think anything of it as my tranny was shifting fine up until the day it just simply decided to crap out on me.
So be very careful!!!!

i had that same code, and shortly after 2 weeks of driving transimission crap out wont change gear from 2nd to 3rd but fromt 1st to 2nd it will high rev...its best if you just replace the tranny or rebuild it...had mines rebuilt which cost me 2500 bucks felt like i got ripped off by the shop and they stole my system....smfh hope you get your problems fix asap.......

Exactly find a low mileage 06-07 Honda accord v6 transmission.

got a pro too
I had my engine mounts replace yesterday n as I'm pulling out of the shop I notice my shifting gear hard, a few blocks later the engine light came on. I drove home slow as possible and the next day got the code read. = po740. So I popped the hood to take a look and the solenoid is broken!
What do I do..?

Broken solenoid....?
Hey TL99sincere, hey man ...... gotta say that seems rather strange !
So, this happens right after the shop replaced your mounts ? Hmmm.
Sorta makes ya wonder a bit, huh ? Do ya trust these guys ?
Personally, I don't understand how a solenoid could be obviously broken, unless it was tampered with. Just my opinion, mind ya.

I know, i think he not have placed the breaker bar there by mistake, or he raised the motor to high n it pressed against the battery, (it was not removed durning
install) the place is a friend of a friend that just opened a shop. I figured I would try him out and this is what happened. I spoke with the mechanic today and he said we will order the part and swap it out. I figure I'll park it up till he replaces it. Hope and praying
that all it is...

Just had this code come up with my CEL....
So I guess i'm waiting for the inevitable failure of my transmission
Should I even replace the solenoid? I'd be pissed if i spent money to replace it and the whole thing just gives up on me anyway.
Any suggestions as to what I should do...

Same code came up in mine bought 2 solenoids one a used one off ebay. They are both still sitting in my garage and also a case Honda dw-1. Hindsight being 20/20 wish I had put that money towards a new transmission.
Your Options;
~06/07 transmission
~remanufactured from honda with the new torque convertor.
Rebuilds=another failure down the road. In my opinion.

yea my friend who is a honda mechanic said that the mechanics there that see this come up even if they changed solenoids, the tranny will still fail.
Would you think it would be worth it to drop in an 06/07 transmission? Or would it be better to spend money on a cheap used car for the time being?
How much does it generally cost to swap a transmission?

P0740 TCC Solenoid Circuit
I had the tranny rebuilt on my 2000 TL about 60 days ago. They (according to the bill) replaced the TCC and the linear solenoids. Car still shifts OK, but occassionally at low speed seems to hang in neutral before kicking into gear. Fluid is brand new and full.
I just spent $3k on this rebuild....ideas?

They obviously didn't do a good job. Send it back and tell them the problem and they should fix it.
Not cool to have it repaired after it was repaired, but it is repair shops responsibilty to fix it the right way.

Yeah, as Nicks2001tl said....60 days and paying $3000 for a rebuild means that the shop owes ya a followup and make things right. IMO.
Did ya get a warranty on the work ? Sure hope so, as ya need to use it right now and possibly again down the road.

Never get a rebuild because it will fail almost exactly the same way. When you go into the shop ask them if they drilled a hole from line to converter charge on the main pressure regulator valve body. My guess is they didn't. They probably also over torqued the bolts on the valve body by using an impact wrench.

^^ Seems you didn't read all the way down here bud..
P0740 doesn't actually says: "Your solenoid is toasted need to replace it" well at least not 99.99% of the time.
P0740 says: "Dude! my pal here (Trans) is about to crap itself, Be prepared! I'm just throwing a P0740 because I'm the only smart thing enough inside this transmission to actually notice something is going down."..
