Question Please Read

Guys I have a question for you. Today I was ridding in my friends Honda Civic SI. We had just got off the freeway and we where making a left hand turn on to a bridge that went over the freeway. I looked over to my right and there was a BMW M3 next to us and then all of a sudden my window that was rolled up just exploded all over me. My friend pulled over and we where stump. We look around but there is no way anyone could have thrown anything because we where in the middle of a bridge. The M3 had both of her windows up so she couldn’t have thrown anything at us. Have you guys ever heard of a window just exploding for no reason at all? We sifted through the class to see if we could see anything that might have came through the window but nothing was there. Very strange. Any help would be great.

that reminds me of the scene from Night At The Roxbury

"I broke the window again..."
"Dad's gonna be pissed!"

A suicidal bird?

Were you moving or stopped? Any other cars besides the M3 around?

Near any golf courses??

I think Mr Hyde is right though..

We where only going like 8 mph. There where other cars but they where all behind us. I don't think a rock could shoot up form the M3 because we where going so slow. It's driving me and my friend crazy trying to figure it out.

i think someone probably threw/shot something at you guys and you probably didn't notice. probably from behind to the side. i heard a few years ago in Houston on interstate 10 there was a guy that was sniping people in their cars with a B.B. gun. Maybe you got sniped. thats all i can think of, or something fell out of the sky like a meteor, i dont' think thats likely though.

Ok good news I just talked to the window tech and he says this kind of stuff happens all the time. Windows imploding for no reason. Well actually the reasoning is the temper. When they temper a window it is designed to have stress (it is suppose to explode into tiny pieces so big shards don't cut you when you get into an accident). Furthermore, sometimes defects in the glass tempering process sometimes don't show up for years. He's done cases when someone will have their car in a closed garage and wake up one morning and have a completely broken window. Freaks people out he says, and I can understand. No gunshot no bullets nothing but a defect...

I've heard of people's windows spontaneously shattering in the tropics. Those triangular pieces of glass in the rear windows are most vulnerable. I heard rumors that some teens in Indonesia used to walk around parking lots during very hot days and tapping those little windows to see if they will shatter .

A friend of mine has a bimmer of which rear window shattered for no reason also. Apparently, that sort of thing happens... like Forest Gump would say "Sh!t happens".

Man that reminds me, my coworker had a experiance a few years back. He was driving home late at night through Cypress Hills St. between Queens and Brooklyn ( a basically deserted road through a bunch of cemeteries) and some nut was practicing his sniper skills and shot straight through both back door windows while the car was moving around 40MPH+!!! Man, he said he just gunned it and got the hell outta there. Luck was on his side that night! The guy was probably hidding in the cemeteries. He was long gone before the cops got there.
