I'm trying to see if there's any connections between birthday of car (manufactured month) and problems we are having.
It sounds like cars that are delivered to dealers in March are not having some problems that others are having, such as paint issues.

This might not give us anything useful or meaningful, but, I just wanna see if there's any pattern or common "symptoms" certain TLs' are having.

1. manufactured date
2. major problems (paint? rattles?window?)
3. love or hate?

1. June 2001
2. Nothing major so far, passenger window makes weird noise, it sounds like there's SAND stuck in between.
3. besides that...I LOVE MY CAR!!!

 

Built about April 11-12 2001
No issues except seatbelt (2) and power window recall
4900 miles and car is great

 

DOB: JUNE 19-20, 2001
PROBLEMS: NONE

Don't know DOB but adopted on 4/23.

Problems as follows:
--All the common minor stuff, some of which I don't think are really problems but quality issues -- squeaky sunroof and passenger seat are the 2 that jump out. Not fixed.

--Many small what appear to be bubbles in the clearcoat. Mainly on hood. Not fixed and will probably remain that way. Can't be w/o car long enough to get repainted and fear new paint job will be worse.

--Water leak coming in from behind the driverside dash. Fixed.

--New transmission at 9000 miles.

--I love driving my TLS really fast. Don't think I can fix that.

 

DOB: Feb 1, 2001
PROBLEMS: Nothing I didn't cause, Damn Chuckhole Gave me an excuse to buy a set of sweet tires.
Love the car.

 

Got the car since early April and the only damn thing that is wrong with it is the f*cking rattling noise coming from the dash! I have made an appointment to get it check out by the dealer next monday.

 

March 17th.

My only concern is I don't find myself alongside BMWs often enough at stop lights...

 

Born July 27 2001 ABP TLS
Less than month old to date. 5 coats of zaino on ABP at birth. Just this past week I noticed one small "bubble" appearing on rear trunk and one also appearing on the passenger front fender. This car was clayed before zaino applied and several "shavings" came out of the paint. Several being about five on the total car. I had no problem with that. BUT these new "bubbles" are a point of concern. This car has less than 370 miles on to date. I will take to dealer at some point in the future. Final paint flaw is a chip on the driver side mirror top that was NOT stone induced due to location inside near the actual mirror itself. Here again, it seems like it just flaked off since when I zainoed the car over a period of five days, there was not ONE issue with the paint. Car is garage kept and spends about 10 miles a day on the road commuting. Other than the PAINT! Zero issues with the car.

 

How can you tell the DOB of the car? Someone please let me know. I bought mine on June 2, 2001. Never had any recall work done since I never received any notices. Only one problem: front driver and passenger seatbelt squeaks. Fixed it myself by applying a small amount of grease inside the belt buckle. The car has 4614 miles on it right now.

Recalls, moonroof squeak, driver seat clicking, passenger seat sounded like metal rubbing against each other when someone "light" is sitting in it, oh, front end damage due to an accident... $9K but everything is fixed to perfection.

LOVE IT!!!!!

yeah, could someone please post how we can check the DOB of our cars. i looked on the sticker on the door and i can only find the month and year. how do we get the actual date the car was made?

 

The build sheet. Dealers will trash the build sheet when they do the PDI. When I bought mine I ask them not to PDI the interior until I went to pick the car up. My build sheet was under the plastic on the passangers seat. The dealer should be able to pull a report, that will give you the date.

Late March - Rattle from dash, sounds like somewhere in the gauge cluster. My wife drives it and she hates rattles more than anything!!! I am going to be a pain in the Dealer's ass because she tends to get fiesty over stuff like this.... overall though she enjoys the car

 

DOB 4/01
4800 miles

1) Leak in one valve cover gasket required two-day stay at dealer
2) My paint got acid rain etching as a result of #1

Other than that, problem free.

 

WDP on 4/01, 3,600 miles, with only minor fit and finish problems from factory.

 

How 's this for an omen DOB 2/01 on the color I wanted (ABP) w/ spoiler , tinted windows, and the only one available in general vicinity. My TL-S matched my birth month so I said where do sign.



Other than the moonroof problems, which was repaired, it been solid as a rock (Knock on Wood)



I'm so glad I chose this car over the IS300 and/or the A4 2.8

Power window controller recall
Moonroof "fix" causing rattle
Assorted other rattles
Uneven exhaust tips

Problems Not Fixed:
Driver's seat lumbar adjustment doesn't operate (never reported it to the dealer)

Other Existing Problems:
None!

 

02 TLS with Navi (Silver)

DOB: June 2002
When Bought: 30 Jun, 2002
Problems:
1) AC failed and requires 3 days stay
at dealer. Now it is fixed.
2) Driver side dash (above instrument panel) rattles.
3) Trunk lip not aligned.

Still like this car very much.

How do you tell the exact date it was built? Mine just says 3/01 on the door pillar. I bought it on 3-27, so obviously it must have been built shortly before that as it had just come into the dealer and was still all wrapped up when I got it. I have had no problems other than the left side door gaps were off and the tailpipes were not lined up. Both were fixed and I have not had any of the problems posted here.
