Please help: Strange cold starting problem
I know this is the TL forum, but I think you guys might be able to help anyway... I have a 98 Accord V6.
Ok, I left my car overnight at Honda today because they could not diagnose the problem while I was there. I am pretty sure they'll fix the problem, but I am going to ask anyway. It started happening all of a sudden about a week and a half ago. Below are the sympton I'm experiencing:
- Cold engine start results in prolonged cranking time, but it eventually starts and does not stall.
- No loss of drivability. The car drives the same once all warmed up.
- No Check Engine light
- I just got a brand new battery, voltage is perfectly fine after initial start.
- Ignition timing is right on as checked by Honda just now.
- I've already reset the ECU, no help
- I've checked all 6 spark plugs, they are not fouled. No oil smell in the cylinder chambers either.
- I've checked the oil level, it's not overfilled.
- New K&N air filter, so it's not clogged.
- I just passed the emission test a few weeks back.
- If I were to start the car while the engine is still warm after the first initial start, it starts right away. If I were to shut the car off with a warm engine, leave it for 8 hours for it to cool down, then I experience the same long cranking again.
- If the outside temp is warm and say above 60 or 70 degree, it starts right away.
I know it's a strange problem,.....exactly opposite of the old gas vapor lock problem. I left it overnight because they simply can not reproduce the problem when the car is warm. They'll find out tomorrow morning. Any ideas?
thanks.

Hmmm...no clue. The only problem that ive heard of like that one had to do with the chip embedded in our keys. Metal around the keychain was causing interference and the car would not start correctly. But it had nothing to do with cold or warm starts. I know this doesnt help. Sorry, hope they find your problem
