Please help !! Odometer replacement
Guys I think I need to replace my odometer display which is also i think known as the (front panel comb). The display is too dim. During the day I cannot even see the "outside temperature figure.
Do you think if I get the odometer replaced I will have to start with the 00000 odometer reading. Where is the mileage saved ? The dealer told me that it is in the odometer that would be replaced and so I would start from 00000 again, which I think sucks :yack:
Please help !!

Don't know if you have to replace it..
but I do know there are three bulbs right behind it that light it up.. perhaps one of them has gone out and that is why it isn't as bright?
Take it to the dealer to check out.. or you can do the LED upgrade that a couple people have done to light it up brighter.

Not to be on the wrong side of the law here, but why in the hell would it bother you that your odometer got set to zero? Anyone buying a used car looks at the mileage first, and if yours is lower, even if you tell him it was changed, it still makes the car more attractive. I know that it's probably recorded under the cars VIN when the guy does a search, but I've sold a few of my old cars and I know the buyer never did a search, since they bought it right after seeing it.
Why is this a bad thing?

I just had all my gauges replaced. My gas gauge was stuck at half full. Went I got the car back it had 000000.00 miles on it. The dealer said they could not give me my miles back. The good thing is my warranty has been extended 15601 to be exact.

Is there any way for a prospective buyer to know that when he looks at your car? Is it noted when the guy looks up your VIN number?

I would imagine that somebody can find out the correct mileage buy using carfax.com or something like that. Also when the state sends you your registration every year you have to put down the correct mileage. In my case I will add my old mileage to my new mileage. I think that carfax gets there info for the state registration and insurance companies.

Not every state asks you to put your milage down when you register for the year. Many states only ask for the milage upon initial registration, and never again until you take the car in for emissions testing. Furthermore, if you have to replace your odometer via the dealer, they note that in the service history of the car, and regardless of the milage shown, they just add the new milage to the old balance. If you sell the car, you MUST disclose that the odometer reading is not accurate in every state, its federal law.
Here is another tidbit, for the last 2 decades GM vehicles have been keeping odometer readings in the CPU, regardless of the odometer in the dash. Since 1982, the body computers of virtually all their electronically controlled engine managment autos have had an odometer metering the milage. I have seen this first hand.
