Exclamation PLEASE help me get this OFF!

i purchased my 03 tl a couple weeks ago and it came with this pain in the ass sticker on it and i tried to get it off with a little bit of lighter fluid and my fingernail, but found that it took me about 45 minutes to get about 5% of the sticker off, and what i did get off started to peel off one of the layers of the beautiful NBP paint!

does anyone know what to use for this? methods, ideas? any help would be greatly appreciated!

I HATE SCOTT LONDON! WHOEVER THE HELL HE IS!

by the way, ive taken stickers/emblems off cars before, and none have been this strong. i need something INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH that wont peel off any more paint.

also, does anyone think buying a bottle of touch-up paint from my dealer would be able to cover up that spot where a layer of paint was peeled off? thanks!

Touch up paint wont cover that up. That will need to be sanded and resprayed. As for taking hte sticker off, try using a hairdryer or heat gun to warm it up. Heating it up will make it alot more willing to come off. Also as you gt it pealing squirt some goo gone or 3m emblem and adhesive remover on it (between the sticker and the car) and give it a littel bit to soak in. and keep heating it.

try goof off or olive oil. and if u use touch up paint it will probably look worst. going to have to get it resprayed.

how much does a sanding/respraying job cost for a spot that small?

and thanks for all the ideas.. do you think lighter fluid might work just as well?

Yeah Hairdryer/heat gun and goo gone are the best to use. Looks like it's an old sticker and the glue bonded to a the paint surface. Sand and paint is the best bet.

yeah im about to pick up a bottle of that tonight, but i feel like the same thing might happen that did with the lighter fluid - you can smear it on all you want, but you cant get it UNDER the sticker...

They will have to respray the whole rear bumper. Thats gonna be afew hundred.

As for the googone and stuff, they work as long as they can get at the glue. Stickers will peel off easier when warm. warm it up with atleast a hairdryer

true that ... you may want to soak it in gasoline ... then use goo gone after you get it off

Use a heat gun on a low setting, an old credit card to scrape it off then use goof-off to take the glue off.

not having patience and taking your time will take longer and cost more in the long run

One thing I've tried before and it worked pretty well was, believe it or not, mayonaise. Just cover the sticker with it and let it sit for an hour. Come back and it slides right off.

Try fingernail polish remover, I used it to remove the sticky stuff when I took mine off.

fuzzynuts are you fuckin with me? i dont want to come back to my car an hour later and have my paint peel off - you know mayo has eggs in it..

or even worse, someone is standing at my car with some rye bread, turkey, lettuce and tomatoes, wiping their lunch all over the back of my car for that little extra creamy (frozen where i live) mayo.. mm. turkeyyyyyy.

I'm just sayin' what worked for me,.. but to be honest, the car I tried it on had sh*ty paint to begin with (but I didn't notice a problem). I had seen it on a news spot on tv and tried it with my car. I'm not saying that it's the best,.. but it did work. Of course I didn't consider your weather. The frozen aspect doesn't help your situation.

Listen to fsttyms1, use an adhesive remover and apply heat to it. If you can't use a hairdryer or such, eat a pepper and blow on it.

But in all seriousness, take your time with it. Remember, body jobs are expensive if done wrong.

I agree. Another solvent that is probably safe enough to try is a Bug and Tar Remover that is formulated to work on automotive paint. I would *not* use fingernail polish remover, as most of them are based on acetone. It is a powerful solvent, and may work well, but I would not trust it on my car's finish for any amount of time.

Mayonaise and Peanut Butter oil are two common household remedies for stuff like this, but again, I would not trust them on the paint for too long. Heat is going to be your friend, and make sure you wash off all of the solvent that you used once the sticker and it's goo are gone. Good luck.
