played with MB SL600

I was driving home from work tonight, doing 80 in the left lane (speed limit 70). Couldn't go faster anyway with cars all around.
All of a sudden someone far behind is flashing lights at me and zooming up like crazy. A spot opened up to the right of me, so I moved over see this fool almost run up the tailpipe of the car that was ahead of me. Some moron driving a white MB 2-seater convertible.

That's when the lane ahead of me opened up. So I nicely accelerate and the lane closed behind me, leaving the fool in the MB surrounded by slower cars.

It seemed like he calmed down, but then when we passed most major exits, the traffic eased up a bit. And I see this fool zooming up again and accelerating. I am in the middle lane, he is in the left. I wait till he gets closer and then punch it. He is not gaining anymore. Then he regroups and starts slowly passing me. It's already 100mph and I don't want to get a third ticket in three months. So I back off.

Plus I wanted to see the numbers on his rear (SL500 or SL600?)

It was an SL600.

Isn't that a V12? I have seen them in some magazines, but I have never seen a test for one.

Yeah v12 I think around 350hp and it's a v12, so alllllot of high end torque.

Judging from what you said... I doubt it's a V12 model.. probably just a SL320, with SL600 badge..... I have try race with SL500, and it simply walked away from me at triple digits....

If it's a real SL600, then he wasn't trying hard.. :p

V12 DOHC pumps out 389HP, and about 402lb-ft of torque...

P.S. Imagine, that my 400SE, with "mere" 282HP/302lb-ft can walk away from my TLS at 90mph and up... a SL600, with more power and lighter weight should dust a TLS at that speed..... MB usually have very good low end torque, and torque curve is pretty flat through out mid-range.... my 400SE, at 1500rpm already pumps out approx 290lb-ft of torque....

It could have been a V12. Remember, he said that he stopped racing around 100 mph because he didn't want to get a ticket.

maybe it was just a badge

I have a neighbor who loves to slap M3 badges on his 325ci, so I would not rule out an MB driver slapping SL600 on his Benz, but that makes him dumb - he should have slapped an AMG badge, those add way more horsepower. At least my BMW heighbor knows what he is doing.

from a rolling start the SL600 would destroy alot of cars. They are even fairly quick off the line.

When you're buying a car that costs over $100K, I don't think you're too worried about depreciation (or gas costs, or insurance, or luxury tax, or...).
