Pissed off at 2004 TL

I bought my car in January of 2003... and I cannot believe they came up with an all-new 2004 TL. What pisses me more off is the fact that the new TL comes in manual, something that was not available for my TL. Also, the difference in the acceleration from 0-60 mi/hr is just unbelievable! Dammit... I cannot believe Acura did this to me.

You can't really put the blame on Acura ... but yourself for not doing your homework (research) before you buy.

Ummm... around the time you bought your car, most people on these forums knew that the 2004 model would be redesigned. Most of us also were pretty confident that it would offer a 6-speed option as well. I guess you didn't put in enough research before your purchase. Regardless, the 2003 TLS is still quite a fine vehicle, although I too envy the manual and the nimbleness of the 6-speed 2004. Just wait for the new Honda IMA system and then get a new Acura. That's what I'm gonna do.

Just like a lot of the 2001 owners who were pissed off when the type-s came out a few months later. At least there were rumors of the 04 whereas there were no rumors of a type-s at all (correct me if I am wrong).

There's always going to be better cars with more features and more HP. It's a fact of life. As long as you make the best choice from all the available options at the time of purchase there's really not anything to get mad about. Especially not at the car manufacturers. They're in the business to sell cars and they have to keep reinventing the wheel to stay on top.

I also bought mine in January. I was fully aware of the '04 re-design and the possibility of a 6-speed. You can't blame anybody but yourself.

0-60 times on each vehicle are not dramatically different. Nothing you can tell just by driving in real life.

It's interesting to note that the '04 TL has 270 hp, yet have 232 lb-ft torque - the same as the '02-'03 Type-S. Yet, the '04 ran the 1/4-mile in about 4/10 of a second quicker. I'm thinking that was contributed by the factory CAI kit. Again, that just goes to show that, performance wise, there is no huge difference between your Type-S and the '04 TL.

A little off-topic, but does anyone know the redline on the '04 TL?

I bought my '03 Type-S AFTER the 2004 TL came out. I like the '04, but I like the '03 styling better. The money I saved buying a "leftover" didn't hurt either. They are both excellent vehicles. I hope you can enjoy the TL you have and remember that what you have is better than what most other people are driving.

Amen to that. I was pissed hearing about the Type-S a year after I bought my '00, but wouldn't trade it now--I like the style. Sure, the '04 would be nicer, but a sweet moded last-year model is always a nicer ride than a current-year model that's being driven by everybody and their accountant. And you still have a vehicle far nicer than the POS most people drive.

just be happy that you have a car and you'll never know, it's the first year for that shape and model, so there's gonna be some problems.

I wouldn't be too upset at Acura coming out with the new TL. Cars will always change and hopefully improvements made to them. Sounds like you're the type of person who needs to lease for a few years and get the newest model available. If you have the $$ thats the way to go.

I like the new 04, however, my 02 TLS will be my baby until they offer the 4th or 5th generation. TL My next car I want to be a hybrid. Acura hybrid TL-S with AWD.. ... I'm waiting for that!! I still want them to integrate the Navi with the internet somehow. Instead of DVD record of streets, I want an online, real-time display of streets with updated traffic reports.

Its going to get there! Its just a matter of time!

don't stress it because in about a couple of years there probably going to be many new features to the new body style that the 04 doesn't have. maybe a type-s kind of model. at least your TL has every feature offered. where as the 04 won't have the improvements that say a 05 or 06 would have.

I agree.. You can't get pissed off at a company for making improvements to their product!

Besides, buying creates jobs and is great for our economy!!! Buy the new TL and put those Bush tax breaks to good use!!!

The 2004 IS noticeably faster than the older generation ones, but only if you compare the manual to the old automatic. Auto for auto, the magazines are getting identical times.

I saw in a car magazine article that it was 232 lb-ft.

Either way, I just read another post where it stated it had 238 lb-ft. So I guess 238, it is.

why the finger pointing???? i mean you were satisfiyed with your 03 tl before u paid for it right??? new stuff always comes up as long as u feel it was the right choice at the time of purchase u shouldn't blame anyone. Reguardless of hw(re-serching) or not, it's not like they point a gun to your head. I got mine in jan 25th and i actually used the fact that they need to clear out for the new tl as a bargin token in hand. so why be pissed at acura??

I guess you really didn't do your homework. That info was readily available before I purchased mine in Febr. 03. Truly your fault.

I'm pissed off at Ferrari

How could Ferrari do this to ME? They are asking WAY too much money for their cars and I can't afford one right now!

How could they do this to ME?!

What is (Honda's) IMA? Is it their acronym for the hybrid technology?

I think it stands for Integrated Motor Assist. Its basically a setup that works with a gasoline engine to provide a lot of power and the AWD advantage. Separate 50 hp electric motors power the rear wheels or something while the 200 or 300 HP from the gasoline engine goes to the front.

Hey, isn't there treatment for this? I mean some kind of therapy or something?

I betcha if you go to an Acura dealer once a day, sit in an 04 TL for a few minutes, then "admire" it and saying to yourself "I'll get this one in four years" about 25 times, you'll get over this complex.

I'm not sure about the Ferrari, though. Might be a more difficult complex.

With everything you buy, there's always the "I should have waited and got a newer one" syndrome. Usually right after the new one comes out.

The manual is a pretty big difference on the street. You're talking 0-60 in 5.7 seconds versus 6.2 seconds for the 2002 automatic.
