A-Pillar Gauge Mount

I posted on the CL forum last weekend about this but now that I have confirmed that the basic molds for the CL an TL A-Pillar trim are nearly identical, I decided to post here.

But first a couple of questions regarding the trim on the TL. The trim piece for the CL and TL are identical in shape and size, etc. However, the TL I looked at had a cloth covering on the A-Pillar trim piece. Is this the case for all TL's??

If so, would the TL owners interested in this accept a plastic A-Pillar mount??

Now for the rest of the which I post on ACL:

Although I did not plan on adding this to my CL it seems that it may now be appropriate.

So who wants a true and complete A-Pilar gauge mount?? It would be similar to what is available for the NSX:

This would be a two gauge pod matching the factory A-Pillar trim piece. I need at least twenty people and I will give my stock piece for the mold. Price would be about $45.

I am going ahead with the arrangements and sending in my stock piece but I wanted to throw out this offer to TL owners as well.

Well its only cloth covering on 2002+ TL I believe. 1999-2001 are plastic, so its all good for us guys. I'm not familar with the gauge pods, but I seen it on my friend's car. So rather then ask them and have them think I'm stupid. I rather ask you guys and have you guys think I'm stupid. What readings does the two gauge pods give?

This is just a plastic trim peice which replaces the stock unit. It does not contain the gauges; you would need to purchase then seperate. What could you monitor is up to you. Things such as Transmission Oil Temperature, Oil Pressure, etc. come to mind for you automatic TL guys. But there are many other parameters.

I am doing this to add a boost and fuel pressure gauges for my blown CL-S6. I had not planned on adding any gauges but with a recent issue with the FPR I would feel more comfortable monitoring fuel pressure at all times.

BTW, thanks for the update on the '02+ TL having the cloth covering.

Exclamation all those parts are the same!

accord and tl have many interchangeables. knobs, switches, etc. i basically took a shot on the honda pillar fitting the 99 tl knowing this about honda. it looks the same? i can also mod it if need be. as far as the type-s, call the dealer and ask if the pillar is the same as in non-type-s. i'm sure it's identical!

I seriously doubt the Accord and TL/CL are the same. The CL and TL share the same dash, etc. But I could be wrong but someone else would need to verify it though.

TL/CL maybe diff because of the coupe design? but TL & ACCORD ARE TWINS! same sedan platform.

I made a special trip to the Acura dealer with a Mititoyo Hand Micrometer and the CL and TL are the same with the exception of the '02 TL having a cloth surface. The TL and CL are closer than the Accord is to the TL.

The Accord may share the basic chassis but that it completely irrelevant for trim. Also, I beleive there is a different rake on the windshield, a less thick A-Pillar along with a different dash which would certainly remove any possibility.

They all share the same lower chassis but the sheet metal varies along with interior appointments which is what seperates them all. But the CL and TL share the same dash, front roof line and windshield rake which allow it to share the same interior trim pieces. The Nissan Altima and Murano share the same lower chassis and both are four doors, they certainly are not twins.

the gauge pods are designed to go over the existing pillar, so if the accord one is less thick, it can be fitted! my mother in-law has an accord ,and though i didn't measure it looked the same!? whatever, my pillar will be here by thursday, and i'll let you know what the dilly-o is! we shall know all very soon grasshopper!

That is not the whole situation. The one Lotek will make does not go over the existing a-pillar trim piece; it replaces it.

The width is just a minimal part of it, there is also the form, the top and bottom angles to match the dash and headliner, etc.

Exclamation kman the vtecrrr is in!

the honda pillar is gonna be a long time before it's done, and will need modification to fit. any of you guys putting in nitrous, which needs a pressurized hose to display your bottle psi, or boost, and or want to monitor tranny temp, oil, voltage, whatever you want to gauge? you'll need this mod! sweet that it's a-pillar, and not drilling into the dashboard! thanks scalbert for getting this off the ground!

Not good news so far. We have six (6) confirmed so far which is far short of the required twenty. I'll will give this until Friday until I call it quits; there is no reason to let this thing hang out there for too long.

The only other option would be to pay more...

Not yet, I decided I would leave my stock trim piece at Lotek and just pick up the replacement piece at the dealer; it was only $26 anyway.

So it is still in the process and will continue until we hit the needed twenty mark. Whether that comes by way of twenty people or people buying multiple units (which has been discussed by myself and others) is unsure.

Thumbs down this is pathetic!

i cannot believe that those of you on the list, which when scalbert put you down based on your enormous interest!, and to which you basically made a verbal commitment! have now TOTALLY FLAKED??? the proposal was floated, and everyone who was all excited for such a great mod, jumped on the list, and then 70% of you just disappeared??? not very fair, or acting in good faith! just wanted to vent my disappointment in my fellow tl/clr's who have evidently bailed out of this project!

I called them to give them a credit card and was told "we are not set up for sales like that,... we will have to charge your card right away,...send a check and we'll hold it." I figured I would just buy it when it was available. I will be happy to send a check in ahead of time, but it looks like we're not even close. I will try to send it tomorrow.

Lyle has been out of town so it seems some of the staff hasn't been too understanding of how or what should be done. I faxed them an order with my credit card information which seemed to be acceptable. Just FYI...

I'm surprised more TL peeps arn't going for this. Even if you do not see a need now, maybe in the future? It sounds like a ONE TIME ONLY CHANCE. So, if you're on the fence, better go for it.
