Has anyone in here ever painted their car Gunmetal or a similar shade? If so, does anyone know where I can check out some pictures?

I'm getting my car repainted this weekend and looking towards some other color options...somewhere along the silver/dark grey shades.

Considering AM is a fairly close "gun metal" color along the lines of charcoal gray that may be the best comparison to what you're interested in. Why have you decided to repaint your car? Tired of the high maintenance NBP? Vandalism? Bored?

 

Oh yeah I forgot about that color. I love NBP and there's a high chance I'll keep it the same but just looking into other darker colored options that still look nice and classy with less maintenance than jet black.

I'm repainting my car because over the years it's acquired many dents/dings and scuff marks all over it from people, you could almost call it vandalism haha. Recently a lady ran a red light, got hit by a car and swerved into me. I moved out of the way just in time to avoid a complete collision and she just brushed my rear bumper and ran off...so I had to get that fixed and thought I might as well repaint the whole car since I'm gonna keep it for a while.

 

Oh okay fair enough. I'd probably want to do the same. My front end could use a makeover with all the rock chips and what not from it's earlier years before I bought it.

Take a look at the AM picture thread and see if doing that color would interest you. At least it's a stock color. Are you going to do only an exterior repaint or the full package (jams, trunk, engine bay)?

 

The guy gave me a decent quote but maybe he was assuming I was going with the stock NBP color. I'll have to ask him for details as to how far they will go in taking the car apart to repaint this weekend when I drop it off. Thanks, I'll check it out now.

 

Yeah doing a repaint of the same color is WAY cheaper than doing the whole car in a completely different color. If the quote seemed on the low side it's mostly for an exterior repaint of the same color only.

 

im going with this color.. its a black with gold/brown pearl...

i'll dig up a few more pics for example.. but its gonna look nice...

it looks pretty much black at night.. unless you're under some lighting.. and in the daytime is when the color shown above is present...

i like that subaru color. NBP tends to get the "honda rot". my brother has an NBP AV6 and he's got the really bad honda rot on his roof and trunk. i think he said the previous owner waxed it too much though.

Some body on the CL side has Java Black Pearl.

ohhhhhhhh yeah ive seen that before. that sucks.

 

Granada Black Pearl. i had that on my 95 civic too. a deer ran into that very same quarter panel and the body shop couldn't guarantee that they could blend it smoothly. the pearl makes it very hard to match. didn't fix it so i will never know.

after a nice wash and/or wax, it really brings out the pearl. i can't deal with a dark/black colored car in cali tho, too hot.

 

I'm trying to get mine painted gunmetal as well.

more like a gunmetal green though, my drum set at home (tama rockstar) is that finish it's a very very fine line between green and gray i'll post a picture later but i think its a fantastic color

 

then you will want dark green pearl on the third gens

 

actually if you dig up one of my old posts I painted my car Graphite Grey Pearl (off the IS300) i think it looks real nice but it did cost me quite a bit

granada is an OEM color.. and i dont remember granada having gold pearl?

i could be wrong though...

Granada does have gold flake. My 91 teg was that color.

 

Well ill be... But yea.. The car posted is custom with a much heavier amount of gold..
