People with HEADERS on TL

I wanted to get an idea of the results from a header modification. After I installed my headers, I noticed a power increase, however, my top end seems to lack a lot. I know a guy that works at the Acura dealership and I had him check it out and he said that my car is running lean at the top and that is why I seem to be losing power.

People that have the headers, tell me how much of a difference they made. Headers are darn expensive and I really need some justification to why I spent so much money.

Anyhow, please let me know

I have Comptech headers.... but I can't help you justify them.

I'm still trying to justify mine. After like 7 months, I still can't.

Damn, I wanted the header for so long, and now people are telling me that it's like crap? j/k

Well, there's only so much that the header can do and will improve. So, it's not the problem with the header, I think it's the problem with that price tag...

$1k for this:

3k to 4k rpm gain of 2hp to 3hp
4k to 5k rpm a gain of 1hp to 2hp…..at 4750 rpm a lost of 0.4 hp
5k to 6k rpm a gain of 3hp to 11hp
6k to 6750 rpm a gain of 17hp to 18hp….so 18 hp in less than 1k rpm range.

I don't know. Is a different story with the headers on the TL type S.

Comptech claims, or so they told me, that you will gain 32 hp at the wheel on a TL-S. I don't know at what rpm range you get that gain but I would guess it's above 4000, which is where your revs stay under hard acceleration anyway. It would be nice to see some actual performance numbers before and after -- 0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile, etc.

I sure noticed difference at high end. With stock headers reving above ~5.5K was almost useless (if i remember correctly stock dyno, the peak is around 5.5K). With Comptech headers the peak is about 6.5K and 5-6.5K is a range where headers definitely make nice difference. Now with SS you can held a gear up to 6.5K and it matchs nicely with new power peak. Speaking about cost, I guess with Comptech headers/exhaust 00-01 TL can keep (almost keep, as worst) with stock 02'TLs. As most TLs around will be stock, h/i worth ~1.6K for me.

The top end is the ONLY place I feel the increase... but that's exactly what I expected. I think they're definitely worth it.
