Learned a new trick with our car - check it out

Lock your car.

Unlock your car using the key. One turn to the right unlocks the driver's door. Turn the key to the right again and hold it for a few seconds. It will unlock all the doors.

Maybe I missed that one in the manual or maybe I always used the keyfob, but hey I thought it was cool.

Red face That is cool.....

....but I've only put my key in the door once - and that was 6 months after I got the car cuz I realized I never used the key to unlock the doors - had to try it. And now thanks to Clifford I won't need to do that again.

Still a great tip NSXNEXT!

Neil are you bored again?
BTW, my dad's '90 Camry does the same thing.

Nice to know, thanks.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else, never used the key except once to test it out. I can't imagine a car without a remote entry system. Imagine all the concentration required to stop and stick the key in the key hole. Too much brain energy wasted for me. Plus it wastes time.

...yes, I'm lazy!

I used my the other day by mistake. I was not thinking and before I realized it I had the key in the key hole. I got confused. They it came to me just to turn it and open the door. It was weird. But that was the only time I have used it so far.

I don't think you have to turn it twice. Turning once and holding will do the trick. That's been an Acura feature for sometime now. Same thing on my 94 Legend.

Hee hee, I never had a remote installed in my 97 Accord, so I'm well aware of the turn-and-hold maneuver.

I'm glad that I'm not using the key to open the door any more. I've missed the keyhole more than once and scratched the area around the door handle by mistake.

how'd you stumble on that one? ive never used my key for my 2000 TL. but, its not a new feature. i remember on my mom's old taurus if you turn the key right twice, all the doors unlock. like hitting the key fob unlock twice.

Now that you mention that NSXNEXT.......I was wondering if I lock it with keyfob and open the door with key....it activates the security system and alarm goes on, right????
And if I lock the door with the key, does the security system turns on automatically without keyfob??????

Do it around midnight in the garage with you not thinking and when you left your keys way in your room. Yeah sometimes I park with the windows down. I dont know why the alarm goes on like that though. I think it is that feature when you unlock the door and dont open any in 30 sec it locks them and sets the alarm.

Turn and hold -- good tip to know if and when the battery on the key fob dies on ya.

While on the subject of opening doors on the TL, has anyone noticed that the trunk will not open with the key fob or the trunk release button on the driver's door when: 1) the trunk switch in the glove compartment is enabled; AND 2) your keys are in the ignition? I need to turn off the car, remove the key before the keyfob trunk button will pop the trunk. Wierd..

Talking Neat trick number 3

1) Park car in garage
2) Lock car to engage alarm system
3) Put keys in pocket
4) Put your toddler children to bed
5) Wait 1 hour until kids are sound asleep
6) Squat down to clean up kid's toys in family room
7) Panic button on remote in your pocket is depressed setting off alarm
8) Frantically try to turn off alarm before kids wake up only to realize you're too late

For kicks, you can start at step 2 and repeat. Actually, I don't think you even need to lock your car to do this trick.

I was wondering where that feature went. When I had my 96 accord, it does the same thing, but only that you just have to turn to the right and hold it for two seconds once....

You can do that with most hondas too. I used to have a 96 Honda Accord and that was possible back then. I havent used the keyhole for my TL yet because it does come with keyless entry =]
