Post by-pass valve?

I know this prevents hydro-lock, but i was wondering if the valve would reduce horsepower. If the valve is a filter than it should right?

The instructions which come with the valve indicate the potential for a "slight" decrease in HP over a straight pipe. I can say that it really wasen't apparent in my installation. It did seem that the "sucking Sound" was slightly reduced, but it may be my imagination.

If this is what it takes to reduce the chance of hydrolock, it seems like a small price to pay.

Not all dealers hate aftermarket parts, ours has no problem with it.No doubt you soaked your airfilter which though not enough to produce hydrolock is certainly no good for the filter element which is constructed out of cotton .Another thing here is that you are by wetting the element with water in effect clogging it,which will affect power output from the engine .

Well, I have the CAI and cut the fog holes out totally for my fog lights. The fog holes expose the CAI filter thus getting more air induction. The other day, it rained like crazy here and I was driving like a mad man. I know I definitely got some water in my intake (impossible not to) and my car is fine. According to the dealer (and we all know how they feel about aftermarket parts) they saw my set up and told me rain won't hurt it. I would have to be submerged inorder to hydrolock. I feel good about this comment yet not a 100%. Am I taking a risk? Probably, but too many people are telling me not to get the bypass valve since my set up is ok and the valve will decrease horsepower. In that case, why not just go stock.

Jens, I think you're right. This may sound crazy but I feel I kinda lost some power after that one rainy day. I think I'm gonna have it cleaned.

You should just get the valve. Despite any hp loss, you should still have a better hp gain than a warm air intake and it would certainly be better than stock. Plus, you would have piece of mind that your engine is protected(assuming the valve truly works).

If you ever put your car in a fish tank, you'll be alright.
