Paint Questions/Problems

Has anyone ever noticed any problems with their paint, specifically tafetta white? I have a 99 TL and the paint seems to be stained a certain off white, slightly grey, in certain spots. It is very difficult to explain, but it almost looks like streaking that won't come off. It almost seems like it is embedded into the paint. I recently had my car in for service and noticed it after the dealer did their routine wash. I brought my car back to the dealer later that day and the service guy agreed that the paint was discolored. I have a good coat of wax on my car.

Any suggestions?

I will try to post some pictures but I dont know I can get the problem to show up in the picture. It is only obvious in certain light.

Thanks!!!

well I can tell you that you mayneed to buy a high speed polisher. Use something a little abrasive (3M Hand glaze) and hopefully it will bring your colour back to life.

hope this helps.

Be careful what you put on top of the Tafetta White. I heard that particular color doesn't have any clear coating on top. You may need to rub it down, but best to check with a bodyshop/ pro.

When I was at the dealer the body man wasnt there because it was a Saturday and they were getting ready to close up, but the service guy told me to come back and they would determine if it was something wrong with the paint or something they could buff out. I am hoping they can buff it out without a problem.

Have you tried claybar ? If it's never been clayed before (especially with whites), the color can become "off white" or gray like you mentioned. Pick a small section and see if it makes a difference. A common claybar kit is Mother's California Gold Clay Bar. Comes in an orange box and found at most autostores.
Hope this helps.

hard to believe

That there is no clear coat - but an easy test is - if you wax is does the color come off when you remove? if not then you have clear coat.

I think the car definitely has a clear coat. Don't the majority of new cars (90+%) have clear coats?

Also, how long will the fresh paint look after I claybar the car? This happened once before with the paint and I did a three step process(swirl remover, polish, wax) and the car looked great. But it seems to wear off way too soon, in about two months. Then the paint looks horrible again. Plus I dont understand why the streaks or greyish color doesn't come off when I wash the car.

discoloration

well it would be in the clear coat - you would need a professional detailer or if you had the tools (minimum a Porter Cable) and some good pads - You might try something like PS21 paint clenser or Poorboy's Professional Polish to get it out.
