Paint matching..Any problems?
Bummer. Someone got the door on my Silver TL-S in a parking lot. The result was a narrow furrow about a foot long in the middle of the door. Looks like it was done with a rubber bumper since there was a black streak that rubbed off.
The paint wasn't even broken but its deep enough and long enough that the painless dent removal isn't going to work. I certainly can't look at it this way!
Since its a body shop job that I'll be paying for I'm wondering if anyone ever had problems matching this color. I'm hoping that the spray work can be limited to one door without the blending to adjacent panels.
Thanks for any advice.
Jerry

Thanks Guys. I plan to go to an excellent shop since I can't live with a bad match.
Since its going to be my dime does anyone have an idea how much this should cost? Ballpark figure here would be helpful. Just want to be prepared for the sticker shock.
It's shallow and doesn't extend to any other panel on the car. In fact it is about a foot long crease dead center in the door so I'm hoping that blending to adjacent panels won't be necessary.
Thanks,
Jerry

Anyone know any shops that does a great job in paint matching in NYC/LI area? My TL is silver and got one of the door edges creased while backing up with the door open (I'll never do that again for sure).
I looked at a couple of shops in Queens and was quoted $150-$200+ to bend back the crease and spray half of the door (part below the guard). I was told by the shops owners that silver is an "easier" color to match. I'm not sure if I can trust them. Any experience from those of you in NYC or anyone else who has had silver repainted? Thanks.

There are many shades of silver and im my experience its one of the harder colors to match. My brand new 02 TLS had a paint defect from the dealer......this was caught less then one day of ownership......welll i did not want any overspray on a new car and demanded that the bumper be sprayed offff the car ......if i had to do this again,I would of been better off opting to live with the defect which was minor.Back to my story....after the re-paint i went to inspect the car and the color was totally off....now this was at the dealer.Ok...they tell me i have to bring the car back and that they will have to do a re-paint AGAIN !! But they will need to blend the paint meaning fade the paint into the original paint.....ugh!.......ok second repaint looks good .... color match to bumper good....was there any overspray?.....yes but very little and i was able to make it dissappear with some careful compounding.

i agree with NsX Pilot. in my experience silver has been the hardest for me and most others to match. silver isnt a color, its manmade so trying to get the same color every time is HARD. the metalics used in creating it if not laid perfecty (the same direction) as the original you will notice. i repainted a hood 6 times once (silver) before i got it to match. thats why i said find a good shop and if you need to ask to see there work. as far as pricing? it depends how sever the metal is actually streched?if they can salvage the metal there or need to put a new skin on. on the low side i would guess 200, on the high side i would say 1200. guessing i would say around 400-800
