Paint job
Hey everyone I need some input. My ride ride really needs a paint job. I went to the CanAm Cruise last week and when I saw my fellow 2nd Gensand I felt bad. The question is I have 2003 NBP A-spec. To the average person the car is black but we know the truth. I know that type of paint isn't cheap, My brother is a painter and offered to do the job for me ( he's a proffessional) should I go for the NBP or Black. I don't have much of a budget, He said the black is cheaper but it will look just as good as the NBP. I also googled NBP and fellow owners complain about it fading and clearcoat water marks, my bumper has a shine but not glossy anymore and the hood . So can you give your opinion please, plan to do this by mid July. thanks

Have it painted in NHBP again, and this time just take care of the paint.
I don't know if you are the first owner, but a proper wash and wax and proper paint care will take care of all of the fading and clear coat problems.
Check out the wash and wax forums. They will be very helpful.

Neither of us are jabbing at you personally, but if you take proper care of the paint as the previous owner didn't it will look really good for the life of the car.
I would also recommend a full detail before shelling out the money for a new paint job. I mean serious detail. Talk to Patrick (Exceldetail) in the Wash and wax forum. Send him some pictures of your car. He can make suggestions, and aide you more so than myself. Good luck!

Yup, I'm with the rest here, paint it NBP.
If you take care of it, the blue flakes in the sun will really pop. That's what I love about NBP. And you can't get that with just black.
Check the W&W section on paint protection. A lot of good advice from those guys.

dude, a real detail can do wonders, alot of the time its just oxidation thats the problem. do you have like crows feet looking marks anywhere on the paint? thats clear coat failure, which is bad, but if you dont, odds are your clearcoat is still in decent shape, and therefore can be "buffed" out.
and just fyi, a $80 dollar detail, or even a $180 detail usually does more harm then good. all the pros charge upwards of 300, depending on how much correction you need.
i had a 1999 nbp tl, which looked like it hardly got washed/waxed. and it had clear coat failure on some spots. but after some research and about 300 bucks or so, i got myself an entry level polisher and some chemicals and made that blue flake pop! so like everyone else said, take a look at the wash and wax section in the offtopic part of the forum. look specifically for black cars and examples of how ppl fixed them up.
hehe and im jealous of your aspec even tho i love my ABP

Look into having it detailed. Good places will fill chips and blend in. At most just have the chipped panel/hood bumper resprayed.

I'm a thrill seeker in my
Give what everyone else has mentioned in terms of detailing a chance, or at least keep it as an option when comparing the benefits of having a new paint job or a good detail. If you can get a proper professional paint job from your bro for cheap then do it up. Nothing nicer than fresh paint. However, if you determine that a good detail will work wonders for a reasonable price then go for that. I'm in the same position as you in a sense. I have a very pitted front bumper, and a hood and fenders full of rock chips. It really sucks to have to deal with, but I invested a lot of money in some quality detailing products and plan to make the best of it. If I could have a perfectly blended repainted front end I would do that, but I don't think its truly possible.
