PAC SWI-PS Help (2nd Gen TL)

I'm installing the PAC SWI-PS in my 2003 TL Type-S sp I can retain my steering wheel controls on my AVIC-Z1 and I'm having a little trouble with it.

It powers up, I have it set to version 3 as the guide tells you to do, but I can't get it to take any of my button presses. The guide defines three wires for use:

Red - Positive 12v
Black - Ground
White - Interface Wire

Red goes to +12v and Black goes to ground, everything works fine at this point as the unit turns on. However, the instructions confused me at step 3:

1. Read only note # 1 in the below chart. If it is blank then skip to next step. The other notes in the chart do not apply to your vehicle.
2. Connect the INTERFACE's White wire to...Pin 3 of the above connector
3. Connect a 5100-ohm resistor across the INTERFACE's White and Black wires.

So, if I'm understanding this correctly, they want me to take pin 3 from the factory harness and connect it to a 5100-ohm resisitor then connect that to ground?

Thinking it was an error in the guide I went from pin 3 to white interface wire, so I skipped it, but now I'm not getting any feedback.

Here is the guide if anyone wants to see it.

I just installed the PAC SWI-ALP in my 2nd Gen TL and I found out with the help of a member here on the board (I believe it was Greeneggsandham...I might be wrong about the sn..lol), and you don't need to use the 5100-ohm resistor.

Just connect the white wire to pin #3, the red wire to 12v and the black wire to ground and it will work.

How did you connect the white wire to the wire in pin#3? I peeled some of the insulation back and hooked the white wire to the green (?) wire on pin#3.

So that $12 I spent on 1200 resistors (Radio shack didn't have 5100-ohm in smaller package) was a waste? LOL

I connected it to pin 3 with a 3M splice connector:

I'm at work now, but I'll try at lunch in an hour.

So if I got this right:

Red ----- Switched +12v
White --- Pin 3 of factory harness
Black ---- Ground

That's it? It should have worked before then cause that's how I had it. Maybe the splice on pin 3 wasn't making a connection, I will check this, thank you.

As far as I remember (this was last week and my memory sucks) yes, red to 12v, white to pin#3 and black to ground. I've never trusted those splice connectors, I've always either stripped the insulation back and do it that way or actually cut the wire and connect.

Your SWI-PS didn't come with resistors? My SWI-ALP came with a small bag of them. Also, if everything works, make sure that the 3.5mm plug to the back of the HU is tight, in my Alpine, it's not tight, so I had to put some electrical tape temporarily to keep it secure.
