"owned" a CLS 6 speed for a day

Well not really owned (talking about possesion) but close to it. How it drove: The 2nd most glaring issue with the CLS6 is the clutch. It moves as though it is either engaged or not engaged. It is very hard to ease off the clutch because of the drastic change in tension about half way through the movement range. The first most obvious issue is the power. The car is ridiculously powerful. I pulled over to the side of the freeway then gunned it. I litterally spun the tires through all of 1st gear. Another time from about a 2MPH start I gunned it, and I'm sure I got to 60 in about 5.5 sec. The car is f@%$&* fast. But it also feels very shaky up front. Doesn't feel stable. Too much power up front? The ride is not as smooth and the seats are not as comfortable as the TLS. But other than that I loved it and thought of pulling 13's in the 1/4. But I couldn't keep the car. Read below.

On thursday I tried to trade in my '02 ABP TLS for a NBP 6speed. It was used but in excellent condition. I still owe about $25K on the TLS and the CLS6 was going to $29K. They were only willing to give me $22.5K for the TLS (which was BS) and I was only willing to pay $27K+Tax and Reg. There was a tax issue because I'm going to Fla in less than 60 days. But the dealership said I'd only have to pay $350 in taxes (to FLa) so of course I aggreed. I signed the agreement to pay $30,100 which also paid for the "negative" equity I had in the TLS. There was however more paperwork to sign on saturday. So when I went back in they told me there was an additional $1200 in taxes! But I didn't want to finance another $31K for 5 more years. So I told them no deal. So they offered to pay half of the taxes but I felt they should have gotten the numbers correct the first time and there wouldn't have been an issue because I would have walked then insted of day after taking the car home. But the kicker was when the Sales Mgr said I was on my own when I got to FLa and I got taxed for the CLS6. Since they already registered the car in my name. He implied he wasn't going to do the paperwork to take my name off the registration. Jackass. I just felt that We had signed an aggreement that I would pay a certain amount then they come back with a different amount later. I signed and we shook. So who is wrong?

It seems to me, if you signed, anything else should be on them.

Then again, I am not a contract lawyer.

the CL-S, even with an excellent driver and mad shifting skills (power shifting...), the car IMHO still won't do 13's... It might be mid-low 14's but it won't get into 13's.

thanks for sharing the experience! I would think a stock clutch should be more forgiving... in terms of the sweet spot...

4 days ago I took a test drive in the 03 cl S and damn it was the fastest car i ever drove. I am currently leasing a 03 TL and wanted to lease the cl.

My Tl has 29500 miles on it and i had it for about 15 months. They said they would pay off my 03 tl and make me put $6000 down and my payments would be 629.00 a month. Right now I am paying 534.00 a month because when I bought my tl I traded in a 96 integra but still owed 8000 and they gave me 5000 for it so they tacked on 3000 to the tl.

Is getting this CL ridiculous or is it an alright deal?? I am not rich but I somehow can make the payments. Is their any deals i can make with the dealer??

I am only allowed to go 15,000 miles a year on my tl. and already am way past that. Please give me some advice. I am still pretty young and dumb

You take the CL Selling Price lets say

$29,000
$22,500 <- Your trade
-----------
$6500 <- You pay Tax on this amount only...

You already paid taxes on your 02 when you bought it. If the car has been licenced in any state all you need to do is the registration which is another 100 bux anything different needs to be taken with the owner of the dealership, althought i dont understand that when they were changing numbers on you thats shady and i would have just walked away from the deal .

ive only driven the supercharged cl S type and the torque steer was horrible althought the car was superfast and felt faster then my stock 91 nsx.....if they made this car on a rear wheel drive platform i think it would be a great seller for acura.

Maybe I'm immune to it but I feel relatively no torque steer in my CL-S6SC. This is based on having owned and driven many powerful FWD vehicles. Are you sure what you felt wasn't the HLSD working as it should??

Accelerating from a stop under boost does not require significant control input; it stays pretty straight. Powering through a turn you will feel the HLSD working which may feel like torque steer but it is actually the power going to the outside wheel pulling through the turn better. But there is a transition step when this occurs.

Of course, coming from an NSX, any torque steer is going to be pronounced.

Wow. This post has all kinds of stuff going on!

It's nice to see you over here as of late, Scalbert. It helps when some of us have technical issues that this site often fails to address and makes us go to a-cl...

Anyway:
Is getting this CL ridiculous or is it an alright deal?? I am not rich but I somehow can make the payments. Is their any deals i can make with the dealer??
Nucleas--why are you buying/leasing another car? Seriously, the faults of being young are doing stupid things. I've been there. When you roll negative equity into a lease, and then lease again, you are creating a cycle that you are never going to get out of. Further, the CL-S is a great car, but it's model is now dead. It has no resale value like a TL. You are getting fu(ked if you trade. If your lease payment is $629 a month, you oughta be driving a Boxster S...Save up your money and buy out of your lease or take your current car to term. Secondly, if the CLS is the fastest car you've ever driven, what are you gonna do if you drive a WRX, G35, Z, Cobra, Porsche...?
There was a tax issue because I'm going to Fla in less than 60 days
jaDia4:
Wait 'til you get to Florida. There are massive tax issues and charges when you bring a car into the state. I think it is over $500 just for that. Secondly, you ought to test drive the car in Florida before you buy. The heat sucks the life out of it in the summer...It's still mighty quick, but not that quick. You oughtta troll a-cl.com too. No stock CLS is running 13's at all. They aren't getting 13's without some heavy mods, either...

A Boxster lease here is $599mo/39mo w/ $3499 down...

Let's say you owe $27k on your current lease, sell your car outright for $23k to a private owner and then you pay the additional $4k cash to the lease company and you are out...It's no mystery, but it requires cash. If you are young, the worst thing you can do right now is keep digging a deeper hole by continuing to trade cars w/ negative equity, not putting down cash to offset your woes and getting another lease in which you are buried...

I tried to work out a deal @ Rick Case Acura in S Fla

'03 CL - S 6 spd Nav

They were pretty close but I didn't buy because they wouldn't pick up the lease on my '01 TL (which has had serious problems)

39 mo.
$900 down
$450 / mo + tax
15k / year

push!!!!!

The advertised rate is $499/mo
48 mo
12k/yr
$6k down

however the car is 33k brand new.... There is a lot of room to work with, but apparently since they're discontinuing this model there aren't any incentives to add for profit on the backend from acura/honda.

Just to let you know.
