Post our cars are DOHC?

a freind that once worked in the parts department, is now in sales and told me that pretty much all the brochures have a typo somewhere. he said that he looked up on the parts catalogue for the tl, and he saw a cam for the intake and for the exhaust. i doubted him when he told me the tl has dual overhead cams, but he was positive.

this isnt just a kid with a lowered teg, he knows his stuff

anyone know this?

Single Overhead Cam for us.....(SOHC)
As quoted from Acura.com:
3.2-Liter SOHC 24-Valve V-6 VTEC™ Engine

An advanced, all-aluminum, 3.2-liter 24-valve 60-degree V-6 engine powers both the 2002 3.2 TL and TL Type S. These engines are compact, lightweight, and incorporate advanced technologies like Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC™). The Type S engine boosts output through the use of a unique dual-stage induction system, high-flow exhaust system, exclusive camshaft design and a higher compression ratio.

I am pretty sure that they are SOHC... But it really doesn't matter...

We do have 2 cam gears persay. But the TL is not a DOHC. There is one cam for each of the 2 banks of 3 cylinders. So technically we are SOHC. If we had a DOHC engine then we would technically have 4 cam gears.

Question

would there be any benifit if we did have sohc or dohc?!
for the ppl who dont know what sohc mean it is a rod that goes across horizontally in the engine with that hit valves to open up exhaust and then intake repititiously(blah)dohc would be one with a double rod going across
im figurin dohc would be a better breathing engine wouldnt it?!

Yep... with a DOHC engine, you can alter the intake & exthust timing better compared to SOHC

DOHC VTEC operates intake and exhaust, SOHC VTEC operates just the intake side.

If the TL was DOHC, it would require a taller engine bay (higher hood), which is kind of a no-no for aerodynamics.

SOHC VTEC uses 5 cam lobes per cylinder, all cut on the same camshaft. 3 open the intake valves, 2 at low RPM duty and 1 wider one at high RPM. The other 2 cam lobes open the exhaust valves.

DOHC VTEC uses 6 cam lobes per cylinder, 3 on the intake camshaft, 3 on the exhaust camshaft. It's the "additional camshaft space" of a DOHC arrangement that makes a more aggressive VTEC possible.
