Ordering paint
Ordering paint
Does anyone know a good place online, or can tell my what a local body shop would charge to mix up 2 quarts of White Diamond Pearl paint? I got a guy who will paint my body kit for free, but I have to supply the paint.
Thanks,
Chris
Thanks,
Chris
I would pick up the phone book and search for auto paint stores that are local.
As for the supplies do you need to get reducer, clear coat hardener and primer also? or just teh paint?
Oh and 2 quarts are more than what you will need. 2 quarts come to 1 gallon sprayable
As for paint, i personally like lessonal and dupont the best. i never liked ppg
you can get paint online here

Right so things have changed up a bit
I can go to the dude who will do it for free, but it's hard for him to get an opening.
Or I can do it myself with another friends painting stuff. The only problem is I need a DIY for Acura painting as in: What to get, what layers to do, prep work.
I wasn't sure of what to use for a search keyword, so I'm sorry if i missed a thread on this somewhere.
Thanks in advance

If all you have to do is buy the paint itself i would wait and bring it to the guy.
To paint it your self, you will need
1:Primer (can be from a spray can)
2: Paint
3: Reducer
4: Clear Coat
5: Hardener (for the clear)
6: Recomended but not necessary is a flex additive
Your looking at roughly 150.00 bucks for all this
Now if you and a friend do go ahead and do this, its not that hard. The key to the paint job is all in the PREP. sand the kit GOOD
Is the kit already painted a different color? If so 400 grit wet sandpaper will be fine. and all you have to do si dull the finish. There cant be ANY gloss finish showing or the paint wont stick. Also if there are any nicks or chips you will have to sand them out smooth or they will show. after its sanded (depending on the color of the kit) you will want to spray it with a grey primer (white will cover easier) get a good couple coats on it and proceede to sand it with 400 wet (if rough)
If its a unpainted kit you can sand the kit with a scotchbrite scuff pad and prime
Painting you will want to apply many thin coats (dont try to cover it with 1 coat) Especially the first. Clear coat you want all the coats to be uniform and not too dry.
As for the mixing of it the paint place should tell you. and they will also be able to tell you how long between coats (usually 15 min @70deg)
If you get runs they can be delt with easy.
If its in the color, WAIT till its dry (usually in around a hr) wetsand the run out and repaint to cover
If its in the clear, give more time to tack up then continue to paint. when every thing is dry (usually 24 hrs) wetsant the run out and buff to a shine
