Cool Ordered my TL-S!! First new car!

Thanks to the great information I've found on this board in the last couple of months, I finally decided to take the plunge and go for my new TL Type-S w/ Navi. I'm SOOO excited! It's my first new car. I'm just finishing up college.

I ended up going to two dealerships in Indianapolis. The first, Ed Martin Acura, had none in stock and was unwilling to negotiate on price for a dealer trade (actually, they wanted $100 more than MSRP). They didn't really seem to treat me with much respect either. Didn't even let me test drive.

The second dealer, Hubler Acura, was a much better experience. The salesman was great. His name is Bob Meyer, and I recommend you go talk with him if you are looking in the Indiana area. He's a really cool older guy, having only been selling cars for a few months, now that he's finished his career in hotel management.

As soon as I got there, Bob said "Lets take one for a spin." He was patient as I played with the Navi for a few minutes when we first got in and he even let me punch it on the freeway. It was great.

We got back to the dealership, and he asked what he needed to do to get me to buy. I told him I wanted a Silver Type S w/ Navi, a Spoiler & mud guards. I told him I was willing to pay $35,000 out the door including tax and all fees (about $1700 off MSRP). I know it is a little higher than what others may have payed, but it seemed like a good deal compared to MSRP at the other dealer. He punched a few numbers, took it to the sales manager and came back a few minutes later with it all approved.

They had none in stock, so we decided on a dealer trade. We finished all the paperwork and arranged a time to come in the next day (his day off) that my fiance could come drive one. Total time was about an hour.

We came back the next day to do the test drive and he had everything ordered. They already happened to have exactly what I wanted coming in on a truck early next week, so I'll be getting that one. Delivery to me should be Tuesday or Wednesday! I can't wait!!

Thanks so much to everyone on this board for sharing your experiences. It really helped to solidify my decision. The upgrade from my 94 Saturn SL should be quite a pleasant experience!!

Cool

Congrats on a new car purchase! I picked
my aegean blue Type-S yesterday. It has
the spoiler but I forgot to mention to put
on the rear mud guards. (Do they increase
the amount of road noise?)

Anyway, it's a great ride-- took it out on
the highway last night and it's so smooth! My aunt really likes the car and my friends are so jealous! They wonder how I could afford a car like that just out of college... well, you only live once and you might as well make the most of it!

Congratulations again and we appreciate your great car shopping experience.

Squidboy,

Welcome!
I am also from Indianapolis and I had a completely different experience. I felt more respected with Ed Martin Acura than with Hubler. I purchased my car through an auto-broker (so they did all of the negotiation for me), but the Ed Martin salesman let me take it for a test drive and Hubler salesman told me to come back when I was ready to sign the papers.

In any event, congrats on your purchased.

I honestly don't know what to say as i overly abuse that statement, all i end up doing is emptying my pockets! Just spend wisely and take it slow on modding. I really give props to those who can restrain themselves and resist temptations to mod their cars once they find out about this site! It is not an easy task, but somehow people still manage to find money one way or another to modify their cars!

Squidboy,

Ya-Hoo! You will be pleased. Sounds like you got a nice deal.

Just be prepared for the "hidden" charges that are going to come up after delivery!

You know, like springs, body kit, spoiler, etc....

Have fun and break it in gently!

Thanks everyone for your encouragement and congratulations. I don't plan on modding it right away, but I guess we'll see what happens in a few months.

Anyone got any tips on things I should look for when I am checking the car out on delivery?

Congrats man. One thing to look for is that some dealers tend to drill extra holes in the front of your bumper to mount the license plate. Don't let them do it. The two mounting bolts below the bumper is enough.

Congrats SquidBoy. I too am right out of college. Some of my friends are amazed on how I could afford such a vehicle, but I figure the car is worth it if I plan on spending a 100 miles a day in it for the next 5 years. It's pretty much my 2nd home short from the office, so I figured why not.

Congrats Squidboy. Count the days. Luckily mine was in stock (along with some other TL-S...TL-P were sold out) when I made the deal last Saturday, and drove it home on Monday.

I plan to go on a long drive these next few weekends.

You'll love the car. I do. I just had to trade in my 2000 TL for the S model. I've just passed the 600 mile mark, yet I'm still taking it easy on the gas. I really pondered the purchase of the NAV system...glad I went for it. It's proving to be very useful, although the price is a bit steep. The seating comfort is head and shoulders above the prior TL I owned. I will own this one for a long time. Enjoy, I am.
