Opinions on G35

Went to the LA Auto Show this past weekend. I was excited to see the G35. I must say that I was disappointed. I dont like the way it looks at all. It is small and has the rearend of the Altima. True it has a great engine and is RWD. But other than that, what does it have? Plus it has DRL's which I think are hideous. Honestly, if the G35 was available when I got my TL-S, I still would have gotten the TL. What do you all think?

I would have definately considered a G35 had it been out when I got my car.

Things I like about it:

1) Infiniti service is great (had a Q45T)

2) More luxurious interior with real wood available

3) Head curtain airbags

4) Brake force distribution

5) Entry/exit (including steering wheel) as part of seat memory

6) Guage panel adjusts with steering wheel

7) All season tires available with sport package

8) More interior/exterior color combinations

9) Auto up/down windows and sunroof

Things I don't like:

1) Infiniti resale value sucks (that's why you don't see more new Q's)

How about almost perfect 50/50 distribution?
It will take about 500 bags of sand in the trunk of a TL-S to achieve the same

G35 is nice. I think if it was out at the time I would have gotten it over the TL-S.

I thought the G35 looked real nice. Also, the equal weight dist and the rear wheel drive were big plusses. In the end though, you would have to drive the car to see if it really stacks up. Specs dont mean S!!T on paper. You have to sit in the drivers seat, sort o' speak

I don't think G35's rear looks like Altima's rear at all.

Are you sure you saw the G35 at the show and not the Altima?

i agree with nameeri. you gotta drive it before. the I30 has comparable HP with the TLs... but the TLs.. puts the HP to totally better use. granted the G35 is a rear wheel drive car. i feel that the same comparison will be made from the IS300 and the G35. when i test drove the IS.. i was impressed.. but the car is damn small. i guess im partial to having a bigger car... girls appreciate it and if they do.. so do I the girl i went to the show said she liked the TL better. and ultimately.... for us guys who aren't married... these kind of opinions matter.

I was planning to get a I-35 or wait for the G-35 but was disappointed in the looks. I was and still am a Nissan fan, but for now my TL-S is keeping me very happy

I like the look of the G35 but will compare the Infiniti to the Audi A4 and the redesigned TL in 2003. Being married and with a young child, I need to determine what's more important - RWD/FWD/AWD, the difference of .5 sec on a 0-60 time and whether I need a big car like the TL. The TL is a foot and a half longer than the G35 and the A4. Since I don't drive from the back seat do I care about that leg room?

I was surprised to read earlier in this post that Infiniti has lousy resale value. That's a big consideration for me. Any facts on this or website that shows the relative depreciation of vehicles?

crmsnidol,

acura has the outstanding resale value, audi and infiniti aren't that gd...

but A4 is my favourite of 3 here...euro car...wouldn't mind it's slowest of 3...since this car is very fun to drive...but AWD package is a MUST

i would suggest u should go for A4...since u r young, so does ur child...

then get the larger TL when ur child grows up...u would want more luxury and comfort at that time...

my opinion of the G35:
1. luckily its not called the skyline in the u.s. cuz that would be a damn shame.
2. i think it looks absolutely hideous.
3. the engine and rwd are nice, thats about all i like about it

The G35 isn't small. It's length is about 184inches BUT it has more interior volume than the Maxima and closer to the Altima. In terms of interior volume, those two cars are larger than the TL-S, therefore the G35 is larger in terms of interior volume. I think the reason it looks small is because of its stance, squat, and low look.

It is my belief that the G35 will end up disappointing just as much from a performance perspective as the new Q45. Dont get me wrong, the Q45 is an awesome car, but performance wise it was as total let down. The numbers look good on paper, but lets see if Nissan can actually transform that on the road.

Ahh, someone with real facts and not speculation - very refreshing! Of course, anyone could have gone to Infiniti's web site and seen the car is significantly bigger than the TL in the interior and trunk volume. But, let's drive it first before judging its performance!

The Q45 had lousy gear ratios and ended up slower than expected but the G35 will have the same engine as the Z and Max. BTW the new Max does 14.7 in the 1/4 with an AUTO. Thats only with 255 hp and 246 ft/lb of torque. The G35 will be the same weight and will have 260 hp with 260 ft/lb of torque with RWD.

The G-35 will also have a 5 speed manumatic trans. vs. 4 speed auto in the Max. That may mean possible mid 14s in the 1/4

i think they will have have a tie...since RWD will take some hp away but 5 spd may help IF it is a close ratio one like TL and IS have...

The TL is only close until you hit fourth. The TL seems to have 2 overdrive functions. Someone posted a comparison of the TL and G35 and the G35 had a more optimized gear ratio. The G35 will be lighter with more torque so even though drivetrain losses will be greater, the G35 will be faster. However, it gets low gas mileage compared to the TLS. I think 18/24? I'm assuming this is because of the gear ratios.

Right now, we do only have specs and speculations. There have been no US numbers out yet for performance.

1sicklex I would like to know why you think the G35 is a yawn I mean, it may not be high up as your GS400, but it does sound competitive in its class.
