anyone heard ASMOIL? they claim they are the founder of synthetic oil and much better than Mobil 1 and Castrol... etc. their website is convincing.

Also i live in downtown do i don't drive much. So do i change my oil by milage or time? normally i only put on 11000-12000KM a year. I am currently using Mobil 1 synthetic, it's probably good for 15000KM but that will take me about a year and few month to hit that milage. Is it ok to let the oil sit for that long? thanks..

 

nope, mobil 1 depletes their engine oil additives at about 8000 miles, I would NEVER let any engine oil run over 8000 miles no matter who or what they claim...

 

The rule of thumb is every 5000 KMS or three months to change your oil, which ever comes first. Don't cheap out on this basic but very important maintence item.

 

I am using Mobile 1 synthetic and I change mine about every 4000 miles. Oil isn't that expensive, my engine is.

every 3 months? i spent like what? $70 CND on mobil 1 synthetic and i have to spend that much every 3 months?

change every 6000KM or 3 months right? the problem is that i only have about 1500KM in 3 months.. i only have about 12000KM in a year... so does it mean i still have to change every 3 months? there was this time i didn't change my oil for 8 months.. engin seems fine though.

 

Don't let the oil freaks get you too paranoid. BMW now specifies synthetic Mobil 1, and doesn't change oil until after 10,000 miles. This is on their new cars under factory warranty, and is done at BMW's cost.

It can't hurt anything to change synthetic more frequently, except your wallet. However, to keep your Acura warranty intact, you'll need to follow their required maintenence schedule, which will have you change oil at 3750 or 7500 depending on driving conditions.

Y2K tl i told you change mobil 1 synthetic every 7000-8000 miles....ive seen the studies and the research that has been done on synthetic motor oils and they say that the additives which are suppose to protect your engine goes out at an average of 8000 miles and YES it is true that BMW tells their customers to drive their new BMWs with mobil 1 synthetic for 10,000 miles...now calculate that into the metric system...
