How bad is the crack? Maybe you can JB Weld it temporarily until you can get a new oil pan?

i can see the crack but i see oil dripping and i feel scratches on the pan

i rather buy a new oil pan and put it in than go through the trouble of looking for a used one

Order it online, but with shipping it might be better to just get it from the dealer.

If its hard to find new pan fast---- I have used and still use JBweld or the other new putty that comes in a stick and you combine its colors- then apply- holds like steel
I have used both to repair cracked engine blocks, broken bolts, and many things in an emergency

jb WELD, temporary?? tell that to my chevy!! - been holding a few parts of it together for several years! its epoxy
I tried 1 brand of the ~new~ putty that is 2 part epoxy- you blend the 2 colors together until 1, and apply to anything--another brand is seen on tv
The grey stuff from harbor freight is what I have, and it will fix leaks in pressurized running water pipe to house, with just some tape over it for a day as it fully cures, that will certainly make a ~stronger than the oil pan~ repair to it. I have done much worse things to race cars at endurance races and they dont break~ well , the repair doesnt~

anybody know what it requires timewise to drop the pan?
On other FWD drives its a bit of work- never looked at my tl thinking about it!
send a PM to fsttyms1 or texashonda- I assume TH works at a dealer, based on his specific and extensive knowledge of acura

I would use the newer product- a 2 part epoxy PUTTY, you can find at most hardware stores next to the jb weld
Reasoning is jb weld is a liquidy material 2 part epoxy, while the putty is going to be an easier material to make a patch and place against crack in pan, or hole or whatever damage

Clean area with carb spray to remove oil- then blend putty 1 minute to activate and apply per directions - use tape to hold in place if needed- sets up in 5 minutes- fully cured for all uses in 24 hours or less

practice on spare bolts in the garage to get the timing from mix to set down before attempting the actual repair...mix a very small (1/2") piece then glue 2 bolts together as test

I can look in Joe's turbo thread and find out b/c I know he dropped his to tap an oil feed line into it. I don't think it takes that long if you have all the tools and know what you're doing.

According to my 3G manual, you have to remove the J-pipe, the torque converter cover and 2 bolts that secure the transmission, then all the bolts around the oil pan. Make sure you drain it first. There should be almost no difference between the 3g and 2g for this procedure.

I used quick steel on a crack on my oil pan. It was much a much worse crack then yours and held up great for over a year. Being paranoid I had immediately purchased a new oil pan after the crack happened and had that put on a couple of months ago. They gave me my old pan and the crack had not gotten larger at all. It still looked like the day I put it on. You should be fine with JB Weld or quick steel whichever you chose to go with.

I would use it as a temp fix till you get a new one. If you hit the ground again it will tear that stuff off. Its strong stuff though. I used it to fix a muffler where the seam had split all the way down the side and was louder than a harley. It lasted quite a while.

Removal of the oil pan requires what The Dougler posted.

I did that when I purchased mine. It is not too bad of price. If you feel extra thrifty, you can recycle your old one!

RockAuto.com should have them in stock... call and check... also check ebay and other online places. For the small crack that you have, I would just JB Weld that... they also make an epoxy that you can place around the entire oil tank if needed. yo, man...lift that car, your ride is clean as hell on the ground, but damn....

stop by your local honda parts dept and ask for hondabond for your gasket.

I like that idea! weld a magnesium plate on the bottem of the oil pan!-
well, at least use the leftover JBweld to attach it~

Kris is right- you hit that spot again and there could be a real problem
My thinking is so often based on race track repairs, good enough for the weekend and replace damaged part at the shop

would a skid plate help with impact? I've bottomed out a couple times but I haven't damaged anything that I can tell.

I'm surprised they didn't put tape around the outside so you couldn't tell what it was.
