What is the advantage of using the oversized filter? Are there any bad results from using the oversized filter? Thanks

more filter media to filter and more surface area to cool the oil as it flows thru the filter, the first being the biggy and really WHY NOT? they cost the same as the smaller ones. but please dont buy fram=honda POS.

Question Overize oil filter oil pressure

Doesn't oversized oil filter yield a different oil pressure? I believe Honda changed to smaller size of oil filter to control the oil pressure. Is this correct?

Thanks much.

Here is a quote from
http://www.ntpog.org/reviews/filters/old_filters.shtml

A serious word of caution to experimenters: if you are thinking of trying out different filters, or ones we haven't listed here, be careful! In the course of testing, I tried a Purolator PureOne oversized filter (PL10193); it leaked pretty bad. Upon inspection, I found the gasket to be MUCH too large, large enough that the oversized M1-105 filter (and M1-104, OEM size) gasket actually fit inside it. If you experiment, be very careful, and look over the filter before testing it. Check the filter immediately upon starting the motor and look for leaks. Be sure to keep a watchful eye on it, and monitor oil pressure if possible

If you want to use PureOne filter. 24458 is the same diameter as stock, 14459, but about an inch longer. I've seen some members have been using it.

I have a friend who is a owns his own auto repair shop specializing in Honda and Acura. He swears on a stack of bibles to use the Honda filters. Something to do with a check-off valve or whatever. From a cost point of view there is not much difference. You can buy the Honda filters on the Internet for less than $4 each.
