Oil changes at dealer a must?
Ok, here's my question for all of you out there...
I have a 2k TL that up to this point has only seen the dealer. I still have until June left on the warranty and my car has never had an oil change from any place but an Acura dealer. Only problem is the Acura dealer is a huge pain to get to from my house and I work full time now. When I was a college student, it was no biggie to go for a nice drive to get an oil change. Is it terrible to get an oil change from a regular mechanic? Will they know about the whole crush washer thing? If they don't use the crush washer on the drain plug is that terrible? I know I have trustworthy mechanics around the corner from my house. Is there anything about the TL that makes having an oil change a very technical process? I respect all of your opinions on here so any suggestions are highly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Noam

-4L bottle of Mobil 1 5W-30 synthetic oil
-1L bottle of Mobil 1 5W-30 synthetic oil (your car requires 4.7L total)
-K&N Oil filter, part number is HP-1004.
It will work wonders, trust me on this one. I will never go back to conventional oil, even in my POS Ford Windstar.
BTW as long as you buy the stuff for yourself, any shop can put the oil in for you. It won't void your warranty, as long as they don't mess something severely, which a knowledgable shop shouldn't in the first place.
the dealer is a rip off to change the oil. do it your self or bring the oil to the dealer and have them put it in. they mark up un it bad. you wont void the warranty if you dont go to the dealer for the oil change. the best move i made was going to synthetic! (127k and running strong)

hey Phatty ill definitely agree wit sc354 i also use K&N Air Filter Mobil1 5W-30 Synthetic oil and K&N Oil Filter its runs a lot smoother and accelerating is quicker response. I buy all the stuff and take it to the dealership because its nearby but you can go to any mechanic that pretty much knows honda or acura, I use to take it to Valvoline and they change it the oil for me and it was lot cheaper.
