Oil change

Oil change
I am picking up my 2002 TL-P tonight and I am going to stop and buy some oil to change it myself. How many quarts does it take ? Is the oil filter easy to get to ? If it's a pain then I just have Jiffy Lube do it.
Thanks

The tl takes 4.6 quarts ( ive added the full 5 for 200k with out a problem as have others) the filter is very easy to get to. If you turn the wheel all the way to the right and look in hte passengers side wheel well you will see it.

Plus on the manual it says 5-30 oil and I usually get the filter from dealer. Or you can get aftermarket maybe...but I am just to bloody lazy to look around. ![Big Grin](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
oh yes in the manual also shown how many quarts u need. I usually get the oil from Wallmart (mobil 1 5-30, the big bottle one which is 5 quarts I believe, cost around $21 or so).
Good luck

Some people in this forun use Mobil1, 0W20 and some use 0W30. I am thinking about getting 5W30 for year round.
What do you guys think ?
Thanks again

As long as you thoroughly wipe the old washer and mating surface and don't over torque it you'll NEVER need to replace the stock metal washer (115K on mine).

I got a question : I heard that switch to Synthetic after 30k miles and more will
make your engine burn oil and make some noice when is idling ? If your millage is
over 30k miles some sugest to stick with conventional oil . What to bevieve ?

Only use the M1 EP-104 sized filter or Napa Gold 1334 filter. Larger is not necessairly better as different grades of media are used depending on the size, to meet the drain intervals specified by the OEM.
M1 5w-30 will work fine, and is cheaper and easier to obtain. There is no harm to using it in place of any 5w-20, but definitely wait until you're out of warranty.

Mine is an 02 and its manual says to use 5w20, From what I've heard, you can use 5w30 and it doesn't void the warranty. The reason they want you to use 5w20 because of emissions and gas mileage improvements, and yes you are correct.

Yes, you can use 5w30 without technically voiding your warranty, but why ask for greater hassles in the event of a warranty claim?
They went to 5w-20 due to the improved performance/wear control of the better 5w-20 oils while still allowing for fuel efficiency gains and more rapid cooling (due to better flow).
