I had one installed on my turbo eclipse in like 98 or 99 it pretty much catches the junk before it re enters the intake valves.

An oil catch can doesn't add any power or make any cool noises so it is often overlooked when modifying vehicles. However, a catch can will ensure you are always running the most power possible by having a cleaner intake tract free of oil.

It eliminates oil from getting into your intake manifold. I just ordered mine last week. I have a fair amount of oil that keeps getting in the manifold.

to capture crankcase pressure venting you can use a small `can` with a filter material
to keep oil in it and allow only air to vent out

if it were not for that system the internal pressures created by ring bypass would explode the engine
its there for a reason!

Im not sure I understand what your saying. "if it were not for that system the internal pressures created by ring bypass would explode the engine"

Are you talking about the existing system or the oil catch can setup? Are you saying that this is a bad or good mod? thanks.

A catch can is never a bad thing to do.

He's not really talking about the catch can, as he's talking about the PCV. The positive crankcase ventilation is a system that regulates the pressure inside of the crankcase.

As gas is burned in the cylinders, some of it is blown past the piston rings into the crankcase. This would build up pressure, and would cause a leak eventually.

To prevent this, the PCV system takes a portion of the intake air and runs it through the crankcase. This air is then released from the crankcase back into the intake manifold. The idea is that the air will trap all of the gas with it, allowing for the crankcase to keep a constant pressure inside.

However, sometimes the intake air will vomit, for the lack of a better term, back into the intake. When it does this, a little bit of oil will come with it. This means that oil will be regurgitated from the crankcase into the intake manifold, and the engine will burn oil.

The catch can is a tool that will allow air to pass, but "catch" any oil that is passed through. This way, the engine will still ventilate properly, but all of the oil is caught into the can. Every now and then, you just drain the catch can of the oil.

It seems like a smart idea to put it into all cars, but it is just extra production cost for regular drivers. The car only spits up oil back into the intake manifold during certain conditions. Usually, this happens during Wide Open Throttle. Tuners are at WOT a lot more than regular drivers, so they usually install a catch can for good measure.

If you have a super/turbo charger, I would assume a catch can would be necessary. The extra power created by these instruments can seriously increase the amount of blow by gasses that seep from the cylinders into the crankcase.

Someone please correct me if anything is wrong.

A Catch Can have the benefits of being:

1.- Inexpensive
2.- Easy to Install
3.- Keeps IM, IACV, TB Clean

This is by far the best deal on Ebay (Im Buying It!):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ANY-C...Q5fAccessories

Dont buy anything from overseas, It just screams Problems.
Note: On that Catch Can the little filter is Optional.
