Oil Analysis Result Spreadsheet available for download

Hello everyone,

This is Bill (aka Evilbill) from the maxima.org forums. About 2 years ago, a few other Maxima members and I endeavored to start performing oil analyses on our cars to prove/disprove the infamous "Jiffy Lube - Every 3,000 miles" marketing line.

Chris (member eCo) started this thread yesterday:

I just wanted to post a link to the thread where you can download these results for yourself and have a look-see:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=100060

My interest in the Honda portion of the spreadsheet began with my analyses of oil and ATF in my dad's 99TL, which I maintain. As eCo alludes to in the threadlink here above, V6 Hondas tend to exact a lot of metal wear with longer drain intervals, regardless of oil, filter, or driving conditions.

On the 99TL, I am going to attempt to prove a theory after having 3 analyses performed on it over the last 18 months or so as well as looking at the other V6 Honda results in the spreadsheet.

The theory revolves around using an oversized oil filter and changing it more often to help minimize wear and extend the useful life of an oil to one full year using Amsoil synthetic. In order to do this, I had to find an oversized cross-reference filter for this application that didn't cost an arm and a leg as the Amsoil and Mobil 1 oil filters do. So, I'm going to change the filter at the 4 month and 8 month mark with the STP S3950 (possibly S3985 depending on a test fit this weekend by member SilverBulletCLS) during the next year and take an analysis to see if my theory is full of B.S. or actually has some validity. I think it will help, but am not sure how effective it will be.

I don't have enough 4 cylinder analysis results to intelligently comment on whether oversizing filters or changing them more frequently would help those or not.

I would like to thank members eCo and Acura CL member Bluto for submitting their analyses to me recently. Hopefully, others here will do the same and you are encouraged to do so.
