Excellent post, Tann! I'll bet you people will still be confused! One thing about using your car as a medium, your fenderwell was rolled. Are you saying that your current set will fit WITHOUT rolling the lip? And another thing - is there a maximum offset before the insides will touch? I still think 245/45 tires will fit with an offset of about 54-56mm.

That's the thing, I don't know if it would fit without the rolled fender? Does anyone have aftermarket wheels that didn't roll their fender's that could help us out?
Not to sure about the Max Offset(that's a good question) because it would depend on how wide the wheel is, also
245's would fit if there were on 7.5" wheels but I don't think they'll fit if they were on 8.5" wheels.

Also, I have seen some (17 x 8) wheels in www.tirerack.com, that they have recommended as a "proper fit" for the TL (don't know the offset however)...but whenever you call tirerack up, they insist that the widest tires that the TL can fit without negative effects is 215/50.....I have been running 225s on my TL for the past 8 months (stock suspension, stock wheels) without any adverse effects (even with a full load of 4 people and luggage); and I pointed it out to the folks in tirerack.com, but they say that their engineering guys insist on problems with any tires wider than 215....any inputs on these ?!!! I would like to fit 225/50-R-17 tires on 17" rims (at least 7.5" wide)....
Thanks in advance.

hunter001, I got my wheels and tires from Tire Rack. I have 225/50 Michelins mounted on 17x7's with a 48mm offset. I did have some clearance problems after lowering the car but it's been solved with some cutting and rolling of the fenders. Should have been alright if the offset was at least 52mm. They sold it to me with the condition that they could not be returned because of fitment problems.

Did you have any clearance problems before lowering your car ?....or did you lower your car as soon as you got your new wheels ? I certainly don't intend to lower my car (prefer the retention of the stock suspension)...
Also, was their conditional sale (cannot be returned because of fitment problems) due to the width of the tires (225 instead of their recommended 215) or was it due to the width of the rims ? ...my question is because, I have seen rims upto 8" wide (17 x 8) & (18 x 8), that they recommend for the 3.2TL ....thanks in advance...

hunter001, the only rubbing problem I had after I installed my wheels an tires was on a little tab on the lip from the rear bumper. It was easily removed with a dremel tool but you can cut it with a hacksaw. The material is only plastic. My original intention was not to lower the car and with the 225/50 tires. I feel that it was not necessary because the wheel gap didn't change at all (tires are a fraction of an inch taller). But after an Acura technician made a comment about how it'll look better lowered, I decided to go for it. Now I wish I had lowered it from the start! I think Tire Rack was opposed to the combination because the tire was taller that stock but I can't be sure.
