OEM Tire Noise
Sorry for the double post, but nobody responded in the tires/wheels section. Have any of you noticed a harsh noise from the Michelin Energy OEM tires when driven on concrete? Are the tires loud? If they are, can you recommend tires with a similar ride but quieter - much quieter?

Yes, they are loud on certain kinds of concrete. They were chosen by Honda due to their high fuel efficiency, but are not the best for smoothness or noise.
I looked at www.tirerack.com for replacements with lower noise, and found that a brand (Yokohama as I remember?) had a tire that was designed for low noise as a main engineering constraint. The model was the "Decibel" tire, and you can look for tires to fit your OEM rims in either stock 205-60/16 or 225-55/16.
I'll try the Decibels when mine wear out which won't be for a while, or perhaps if I run into a windfall sum of spare cash.

Oh, yeah - I read a review on the TL in a car mag a year or so ago, and the author also noticed the tire whine and complained, so we aren't alone.

My tire dealer, Washington Tire and Wheel (in Los Angeles) said they were so good, that he had trouble keeping them in. I wanted a set for my Wife's '95 Altima. I have Toyo T1S Proxies, but I have the 17" wheels. The picking gets smaller in 15".
TireRack has them rated at #1 or #2 (depending on the day) in the "Ultra High Performance All Season" category.
I haven't tried them, but they look good.
Here is the link to the Tire Rack page with all of the ratings (and the Yoki AVS DB tire), currently #2 out of a bunch.

BTW -- They were #1 2 weeks ago!

These tires suck big time. As Gomes has said, one of the car mags rated the TL's handling poor, mainly due to the tires. These tires are damn noisy on certain concrete, especially the type in hawaii. Upgrade your stock rubber and you will be most satisfied with both ride quality and performance.

I've got Toyo T1S Proxies (235/45ZR17-97W*) that stick so well, that most people (if blindfolded) would not believe that they were riding in the same car. From scare the heck out of the driver (me), to scare the heck out of the passengers (due to the high G force without a peep and the look when they see the speedo and can't believe it).

Changing the tires is the one "mod" that this car deserves.....I switched the stockers for Michelin Pilot XGT-Z4 225/55/ZR-16s (rims are stock) and the handling improvement over the stock tires is phenomenal....
