Question Oem Mud Guard Installation Question???

I've already installed the front mud guards but am a little befuddled with the rears? What have you guys used to puncture the holes in the rear bumper to allow you to screw them on?? I have the phillips tool so as not to have to remove the tires ........

Most people here are taking their mudguards OFF due to the fact they eventually start ripping into your paint.

Is it a new car? Why didn't the dealer install it? Where are you located? I might be able to lend a hand.

Since NO one really answered your question.

Just use a drill on low speed with a small drill bit (smaller than the screws) to drill a small hole. Then the screw will tap the hole out.
You don't need to take the wheel out... just try to do it on an angle.

ON a side note... I had the guards on for 11 months and I liked them, espically in WINTER. They have their good and bad points. I just made sure whenever I cleant my car I sprayed with the pressure washer behind the guards... hence NO MARKS.

I was meticulous about cleaning behind them also, didn't help me a bit. I actually had my front 1/4 panels repainted under warrantee because they ate down to the metal :wow:

I would take the front two you already have on OFF and leave them on the shelf.

Many many have had problems with them. I have an open case with Customer Care investigating them. They acknowledged the fact that it was a problem and they will cover the damage under warrantee.

Nor do I - I owned three TL's, and not one of them had any drilling. If drilling is done, a dab of clear silicone on the screw will prevent any rust - this is SOP for a good mechanic, and we do it on any of the specialty cars I take on, but typical of crappy dealer nimrods. Mud guards are ugly anyway - I like them on my Outback, but not on my Cobra.

\The ones I have seen had speed-nuts and required no drilling whatsoever - did you get a real Acura kit, and wasn't the hardware in there?

I raised a little hell

I also faxed a letter to Acura Customer Care sounding very professional, not just ranting.

I basically told them that I couldn't believe that an Acura OEM part installed at the dealer before delivery would cause such damage in such a short time.

The service manager has always gone out of his way to please me at least. He talked with his district warrantee rep and he agreed that it should be covered and to have the repairs done. And actually the service manager told me that if the district warrantee rep wouldn't have it covered that he would cover it for me.

I was without my baby for about a week during the negotiations and work, but it was worth it. They stripped and repainted both left&right 1/4 panels which had gashes all the way down to metal the entire length of the mud flap. And they buffed out the rear marks which were only into the clearcoat.
