Odd Scraping sound in Front Left Brake Tire...
I was wondering if anybody has ever had a similar issue as I am having with my 2002 TL-S.
When I am driving, I ocassionally hear this strange scraping sound in my left front tire well. It sounds like (and I am doing my best here) two pieces of metal scraping each other as a pair of scissors would sound, but more in a continuous manner. The sound does come and go, and is more offen triggered by a wavy road and is generally only audible @ speeds greater than 35 mph. When I hear the sound, I apply a little pressure on my brakes and the noise goes away for as long as I have my foot on the brake. Sometimes the noise goes away after that, but most of the time it follows me.
I have 114,000 miles on my car. Replaced rotors, replaced brake pads and did a full brake bleed @ 70,000 w/ Powerslot rotors and EBC Greenstuff pads and some Pep Boys brand brake fluid. I've replaced my tires @ 105,000 miles and had an aligment.
I am considering just replacing the rotors and pads to see if that will resolve the issue, but it seems like a sizable investment if I can get away with not doing that for another few thousand miles. Any thoughts/advice will be much appreciated.
I should add that while I am no mechanic (obviously), I do not see any visable issues under the wheel well....

pull the wheel and look at the brake pads
Could be a wear indicator bar
40,000 miles is a lot out of front pads- especially when you have slotted, drilled or similar rotors as the many edges make for good knives against the pad

Ahhh...I see what you are saying.
Next question...because I am in a pinch, anybody know of a retail store in the Bay Area that will sell me some EBC front GreenStuff's over the counter?
I think I have a spare set of rotors at home in my abyss of a garage, but incase I don't then anybody have any recommendations on where I can get some rotora's or Powerslots (fronts only) over the counter as well? My steering wheel vibrates when I brake so I assume I need to replace them. I would just turn them, but I am seeing some minor cracking in them as well...

I would switch to Hawk HPS pads available locally at PepBoys
Often the pads get a glaze/build-up on them which can sometimes be fixed with a high speed method, but GUESSING, because you live in SF, that the brakes get use a lot on hills and traffic.
Depend on the actual condition of your rotors. Have a local shop inspect for you
The "cracking" may be normal wear
If you put new pads on the old rotors- clean rotors with 150 grit sandpaper and wash with soap and water- otherwise-brake noise for sure

i got the same sound on my slotted dimpled rotors and ebc greenstuff(about 7k on um). no luck finding the source but i changes tone when i turn the wheel a bit,and stops at a certin wheel postition which leads me to belive somthing is rubbing, try taking it all apart and see whats scraping.thats what im gonna do.

I have a promblem simular to that, only difference is that when I am driving at about 10-20p/h I hear sound like my calipers rub against the rotors. I don't think its the metal piece, because it would of made squicking sound. Is it something that could be caused my warped rotors?
Thank you for your help in advance,

Its pretty difficult to warp a quality set of rotors like yours without very some exteme driving.
Whenever there is a noise in your brakes, remove the wheel and inspect!
It is necessary to remove the pads to really check them - condition of their
active surface as well as total pad thickness remaining
Its more often a case of pad glaze than rotor warp
With high performance parts- got to use them or they complain.
Make sure the calipers are properly greased and the bolts at correct torque
If all parts check out ok - then you can do a high speed re-bedding to remove the glaze and get the pads working properly again
